Update #11: Thanks for your continued patience!
Update #10: Still working...
Update #9: Our first podcast!
Dear Backers,
We are delighted to announce our first podcast! Over 1000 songs we picked up in Ukraine were culled through to get this hour long snapshot of music from the region to you. Listen or download on our website, or subscribe through iTunes! Yes, we are on iTunes! Just search for Silk Road in Stereo. Pretty cool, huh?
Regular blog posts with stories, sounds and images from our trip are being posted to our website each week. We are also posting lots of our original recordings to SoundCloud, and will probably ramp up that effort soon with the help of the SoundCloud community team (special thanks to to SoundCloud for supporting us!).
Finally, we want to let you know that we've started sending out your backer rewards! Some of you may have already received photos of your name on our car. A few of you who I've seen in person recently have received Kyrgyz hats (and they do look dashing on you!). For those receiving physical items (hats, books, spices) we will need to get your postal address, so be on the lookout for an email from us. We hope to get all the backer rewards out by Christmas.
All the best,
Kara
Update #8: And we're back!
I'm happy to report that we successfully completed the Mongol Rally! Our little Hyundai Accent crawled into the finish line on September 1, being held together with duct tape, cellophane tape, and steel twine. It was an incredible ride. Many of you were with us all the way, and we are eternally grateful for your support! Recordings, CDs, spices, hats, and stories all made it back to New York safe and sound.
But the project is not finished just yet! One of our team members is currently in China, continuing to record and pick up music and sounds along the way. I hear we may be getting some Chinese opera...
The two of us who are back home are beginning to organize our images, edit sounds, and write stories. We will start posting to our website silkroadinstereo.com this week, so be on the look out.
Thanks again to all our backers! We seriously couldn't have done it without you all.

Hi Brian,
We are already posting sounds and stories on our website, www.silkroadinstereo.com. We will continue to add more every week, so keep checking! Everything will be downloadable, either from the site or from SoundCloud.
As for the CDs and things, we hope to have that organized and mailed out by late November. We have a ton of music and recordings to go through and find the best!
I'll post an update soon. Thanks for checking in!

Update #7: on the road
Greetings from Astrakhan, Russia! We are at the border of Kazakstan, officially to cross into Central Asia later today. We are fortunate to have this rare opportunity to use the internet as well! As you may have gathered, internet access is infrequent, and we are always on the move, so it's difficult to post sounds and images as we go along. But we are collecting and recording, and blogging along the way, to be posted when we return home. And all of your names on our car draw lots of stares and questions everywhere we go! It's been lots of fun so far. But we've got a long way to go!!
In the meantime, we can post from the road via SMS from our cell phone. You can find those updates at the following:

So many thanks to everyone for all your support!

Hi -- really enjoyed the podcast. Are you going to prepare any more?
Yes, there will be many more. In fact, we just posted a new one this past weekend. Look for it on iTunes and on our website!
