Hand Crafted Ales, Specialty Brews, Ciders and Mead. Soon to be enjoyed throughout the San Francisco Bay Area; and beyond!
I'm Lucas, and I love beer. Drinking it, making it, but most importantly, I want to share the best possible beer with everyone, especially people who have never tried a truly hand crafted beer. To do that, I want to open a Pico Brewery.
Since it was asked for - For anyone that donates at the $100 level, we will arrange a local (within the greater SF bay area) "learn to brew" day for those folks. At this time, I'm thinking that we'll focus on homebrewing all grain beer, and most likely make our Patersbier, which is simple, but complex at the same time! Give us feedback and your thoughts!
So... what is a pico-brewery?
A micro brewery , but smaller, focused on being able to connect with beer drinkers about what they want, and work together to make great beer for everyone to enjoy..
If you're tired of always drinking the same 4 or 5 beers at every bar in every city, isn't it time that you had a choice. Shizmo Brewing Co. would make this a reality. I already make award winning beer. I've done this by listening to what people want to drink, all the while maintaining my own spin on beer and traditional styles. if something catches on, I'll make in en mass (at least for us) and sell it to local retailers. If it suffers in popularity, I'll replace it with something else that the people ask for. The concept is simple. Listen to my customers, stay local and involved, and make great beer for everyone to enjoy.
My award winning Belgian Strong Dark Ale
My locally grown organic Persimmon mead and Loquat/Vanilla mead.
Irish Red Ale
American Amber Ale
What will Kickstarter make possible?
Kegs- Lots of kegs are necessary to maintain an inventory and keep the taps flowing at the local bars.
Raw Ingredients- With a commercial account, we'd be able to buy in bulk. 2000 plus pounds of grain at a time.
Equipment- Brewing equipment is the biggest cost here. Mash tuns, fermentation tanks, storage tanks, water and grain handling equipment. Its all expensive and I need it all.
What this money will do; is enable me to take the step from Home Brewing on a large scale (my home-brewing has taken over most of the garage and back yard) and move it into a legitimate, albeit tiny commercial space, becoming a bonafide pico brewery.
How and where will I do it?
I'll take advantage of the fact that I've spent countless hours making connections, building the momentum, and meeting with people that promote clubs, run restaurants, own hotels, and support the craft beer movement.
So far its all been word of mouth... grass roots activism and guerrilla advertising. And its all been working. Now I just need to show that I have the capacity to follow through on the momentum that's been built.
I'll be based out of the Greater San Francisco Bay area. I'll hand deliver all the beer from San Francisco to Napa Valley and everywhere in between. I'll take on the roles of brewmaster, manager, sales guy, and all around cleanup and setup guy. I'll do my best work when I connect personally with every person that sells my product and hear what their customers think of when they drink my beers.
With every project, there come things that we'd all like to support. Locally produced beer is great, organic beers are better, but the one thing that I'd like to be able to support with a growing brewery business, is a bit closer to home. A little over a year ago, we began the worst part of our lives to date, when our then three year old son was diagnosed with epilepsy. There is nothing more frightening than watching your child have seizures every few days for months on end. Being unable to control seizures, and watching the AED's take it's toll on his little body was heartbreaking. To this, my response is that with this brewery, I will pledge to donate 1 percent of all profits to Epilepsy research. Our main focus is on supporting the research made possible by The Epilepsy Therapy Project and CURE. While we were finally fortunate enough to get his Epilepsy controlled, many are still struggling to find relief or a cure.
The wife and three kids. For the time being its going to be just the 5 of us.
It may sound simple, it may sound small, but for the last year we've been listening, and the craft beer revolution is going to continue to grow and thrive, and people are all asking for those beers. The micro and pico brewed beers. People want beer that is made close to home, by someone that they can meet and chat with, and maybe even brew with. They want beer with flavor, and unique ingredients that are organic and natural. They want what I've been making, and want to continue to make for people to enjoy!
