Hailed as "almost impossibly majestic and beautiful" (NPR), Shearwater's Palo Santo (2007, Matador), a suite of ethereal but disquieting art-rock centered around the life and death of the singer Nico, marked the Texan quintet's debut on the national stage. The New York Times named the album one of the year's best, and the band's singular combination of sonic abandon and restraint drew comparisons to late-period Talk Talk and Eno's early solo work. Last year's much-lauded Rook (2008, Matador) took the band into realms both richer and stranger, with a depth and grandeur that seem improbably packed into the album's tidy 35 minutes and a haunting examination of the continuing erosion of the natural world.
Shearwater's third album for Matador, The Golden Archipelago, is set for release in the US on February 23, 2010. This time, the band have created a lush, fevered portrait of life on islands, based partly on Meiburg's extensive travels to remote places, and the depth and clarity of their previous albums adorns a fierce new urgency and wildness. In conjunction with the release of Shearwater’s new album, The Golden Archipelago, singer Jonathan Meiburg and designer Mark Ohe have assembled a beautiful, full-color, 75-page, 8 x 10.5” dossier as a companion piece (which is only available for purchase here on Kickstarter).
Band Members: Jonathan Meiburg, Thor Harris, Kimberly Burke, with Kevin Schneider and Jordan Geiger.
Hey guys, anyone know when Aus backers can expect (or should've expected?) to receive their dossiers? Been looking forward to it for months. :)
way to go, guys---nice rewards. hey, check out my new project (just click on my name, i think)
Got my Vinyl and CD which are fantastic of course, but so far no sign of the dossier, any chance anyone know when the dossier will arive on British shores?
GOT MY DOSSIER!!!!!! SO EXCITED! it looks amazing and i love the paper!! THANKS SO MUCH!!!
YES!! I am excited about the full size Dossier. I saw the money charged to my billing statement this month and was wondering if SHEARWATER has set a date to complete the book and when it will be sent out? I was emailed to log in here and give my name and address, so just curious as to when it all ships out. Thanks for any info. I got my CD and LP from Matador already.
Congratulations, guys -- this is fabulous and exciting, and I imagine I speak for everyone when I say I can't wait to see the finished project. Likewise, I'm ridiculously proud to say I was able to contribute, in however small a way.
Congrats JM and crew on passing 10K! Glad I could help.
how did i not see this until now?!?
miss you, buddy, and the new album is amazing.
Zigra and all our other dear friends,
Not to worry, there's a very elaborate system in place! As items have gotten down to the bottom of the barrel, we've had to wait on replies about what people want in an effort to keep the "first come first serve" mandate in order, as we certainly don't want to send out messages saying certain items are available, and then get a reply from an earlier backer who wants the last one! So, we've been waiting for a few messages to trickle into the inbox before we moved on. Another round of messages will indeed be going out today though, so keep an eye out!
Hi all - congratulations and I"m happy to be a backer, but how long do I have to wait to get my email to request my reward. It's been 5 days and things are runnig out. Not to be greedy - just wondering. Ok, it's a little greedy, but only because I love SW so very much.
Just got my tickets to see you guys in Brighton UK. Can't wait!
I'm honored to be able to push you guys over the required amount, and look forward to seeing the final piece of art. maybe when you're in new york, you could elaborate a bit more at, say, the American Museum of Natural History (I could help coordinate this).
Happy New Year!
