Texas D.I.Y. troubadour Shakey Graves is trying to take his low fi sounds out of the basement
hey folks...I'm Shakey Graves.
Over the last five years i have been lucky enough to travel the states on a shoestring budget. meeting new friends and new family, writing music and recording it in any way i can figure out. In this new year, i want to embark on a new path, one that will utilize where I've been, and the things I've learned. for the first time, i am ready to make a full studio album.
Up to this point i have been doing it all myself, hand making demos before shows, recording and editing the songs on crappy equipment, and i have really come to love the music that has come out of this chapter of my life. But there are so many things i cant accomplish on my own.
The goal is to take all of the tricks that i have learned from home recording and self production and translate that into a studio so that i can utilize the myriad of instruments i have no idea how to play, and bring in some highly esteemed peers to do their thing.
I will need to raise money to pay fellow musicians whatever i can, and to insure that i these recordings are fully produced, and specially packaged. This has been a dream of mine for a long time and i feel like i am finally in a position to fulfill it.
In my travels I have been inspired by so many folks from coast to coast, i have had the distinct honor of playing along side musicians that haunt me to the core, and been kept afloat by the kindness of friends and strangers.
I want to make an album that utilizes this. A Shakey Graves family album. 12 brand new songs that stand as a tribute to everyone who has extended their hand, offered their couch, and perked up their ears.
but i cant do it alone.
Recording will start around my birthday (June 4th) and the album will drop by Christmas of 2011, so it will be like investing in a future Christmas gift!
