A new chapter of history has begun with the age of discovery, the age of empires and the birth of the spirit Rarascau in the land Tsenacommacah. He is among the last of his kind, a dying race of beings who borrow their likeness from humans. Cursed with immortality that can only be undone by despair, they lend their power to the numerous civilizations of the world. Through spear, sword, and gun; their presence is timeless, they are the Keepers.
After being spirited away by one such being, Rarascau was renamed “Alfred” and was left in the care of the English colonists at Roanoke, only to watch the inhabitants vanish, then to Jamestown, to witness the Massacre of 1622 and, finally, to Plymouth. However, with the death of the settlers’ mediator, Squanto, nowhere was safe from the tumultuous skirmishes of the New World.
As a result, Alfred was hidden deep within Shenandoah Valley. One mishap after another, he found himself alone in the wilderness … for 133 years.
With the Keepers of the British Empire away in Europe, Alfred was asked to fight on under the colonists’ banner after the eruption of the French and Indian War. However, nearly a century of isolation had preserved his childlike innocence. Through twenty-eight years of countless trials, Alfred would transform from an innocent, gentle lamb, into a Tyger who would bear his fangs at the world’s greatest power.

Battle System: a dynamic system that utilizes classes based on historical unit. Unlike most Japanese-styled RPGs, this game does not utilize magic (George Washington summoned LEVIATHAN ... yeah, no). The classes totes a concise range of skill sets, but strategic.
Dueling: a throwback to Genso Suikoden I-II and Secret of Monkey Island.

A good question. The problem with using a human character was I would have to conceive a person who could witness various historical events in a wide variety of places and have a stature important enough to speak with historical figures. I did not want to utilize historical figures as characters because I do not want to risk grossly misrepresenting a person for 30 hours and it is limiting.
Using immortal characters that exist “outside the rules” was the easiest way to go. It also allows the lead to witness the beginning of Colonial North America to the creation of the United States of America (a time span of 181 years if you discount Roanoke Colony). At the same time, the characters are neither worshipped or demonized. They have no special titles. They existence is shrugged off, following the lines of magical realism where ‘unnatural’ and ‘fantastic’ concepts are accepted as mundane and realistic.
The lead character is not a world-saving-teen, he is not even a leader or some beloved hero that screams “This is America!” His journey is about “discovery” as he follows a chain of events. Yes, all major events and campaigns are based on historical events and battles – like the Battle of Monongahela, Battle of Fort Ticonderoga, Battle of Long Island.
He does not change the world – the world changes him.
The concept is bizarre for a game, but hang in there!
Sorry, you cannot control them on normal maps. However, they make frequent appearance throughout the entire game – from people like General Montcalm to General Washington.
No, but it pays homages to the show. Originally, I was creating a joke coding project. I heard about it from a feed and read about it and went with it after watching a five minute clip. Over time, it became something more serious and I threw out most of the cast, anyone remaining had evolved into entirely different characters physically and personality-wise, but I was so attached to the name, I kept them as a homage to the inspiration. The concept of personifications was also gone.
There was no ill will in the changes, I just do not watch anime (outside Ghibli) and did not understand. I explained it in greater detail here.
