Update April 22nd
Abel and Cain is a ten minute experimental science-fiction horror film about a young man, Abel, suffering from a lack of inspiration and the internal journey he goes on to find it.
Abel and Cain will be shot on a low budget in Brooklyn, New York and feature Alex Bone in the multiple roles of Abel and Cain, two sides of one man's psyche, and Tara Cioletti in the roles of Rachael and Lilith, Abel's unhealthy visions of femininity whose influence he struggles against.
Abel and Cain is inspired by the works of David Lynch and David Cronenberg, in particular the films Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway, Videodrome, and Naked Lunch. The film also draws inspiration from Judeo-Christian and Norse mythologies and folklore as it explores the connection between creativity, identity, and stories of the fall of man.

When struggling writer Abel is unable to produce a promised manuscript, he is provided with a video intended to help him unlock his inspiration.
After watching the video Abel finds himself confronted by visions of himself as Abel, a failed writer, and Cain, a successful photographer, each struggling with the influence of a feminine counterpart. Rachael mothers and coddles Abel while Lilith dominates and consumes the creative efforts of Cain. In this struggle Abel tries to find the inspiration that will allow him to complete his manuscript, but it may not be Abel who emerges in the end.
The team for Abel and Cain consists of writer/director Sean Mannion, actors Alex Bone and Tara Cioletti, photographer Kate Black, make-up artist Stella Barber, producers Clara Peterson and Jessica Mannion, and social-media consultant Georgia Jackson.
Where the Funds Go
The funds being raised here on Kickstarter will be dedicated to compensating those people who are contributing to the project. Filmmaking is a team effort. Each member of the team contributes unique perspectives and skills as well as valuable time. As someone who has worked both in a corporate environment and now as a freelance filmmaker/artist Sean Mannion has learned that it's vital to value the contributions of everyone on a team and to express appreciation for that input through compensation.
Some of the funds will be dedicated to equipment rentals necessary for the shoot, festival fees, and other needs such as feeding the cast and crew. However, the team has already raised some funds to ensure the bulk of our Kickstarter backers' donations go directly to supporting the artists that are giving their time and talent to the project.
Abel and Cain is intended for festival submission and won't be presented online. Outside of festivals the only people who will be able to see the film are backers of $10 or more. All backers above that level will receive a high-definition MPEG-4 copy of the film.
The DVD available to those backers who are generous enough to pledge $50 or more will include behind-the scenes videos and other materials that will generally be unavailable.
At the $150 Level, the producer package will include professionally-printed prop photos by photographer Kate Black. These photos feature lead actress Tara Cioletti and will appear in the film.
A Final Word from the Director
Your generosity and support is extremely important to myself and the rest of the team. Strange as it is Abel and Cain is a very personal story for me. In addition to representing some of my own creative and internal struggles, the film also represents a big step in my career as a filmmaker. I am taking more chances and pushing myself to go further in both the material and in seeking an audience for my work. I can't thank you enough for your support on this next step.
