Just a friendly reminder that our wrap party for Dead Billy is just two days away! For those of you who are in town (or close to the Burque), we hope to see you at Sister Bar (407 Central Ave. NW) in downtown ABQ on Sunday night, July 28th, at 6 pm. Remember that we'll be screening our trailer and a few scenes!
If you can't make the party, we are officially releasing our trailer on Monday morning, so you won't have to wait too long to see it! Also be sure to check out our new and improved website at www.deadbillythemovie.com.
And last but not least, we are excited to present our latest poster:
Thanks for all your support, and we hope to see you at the WRAP PARTY!!
Team Dead Billy
We do apologize that some time has passed since our last update--but this just means we've been reeeally busy with production for Dead Billy! Our November shoot went off with a bang--13 days of fantastic filming with an even more fantastic crew...not to mention some amazing performances from the cast. Once again, we cannot say how humbled we are to be given the opportunity to work with New Mexico's top film professionals. It's making our film look better than we ever imagined!
THEN: In early January, a Tiny But Mighty Team went up to Colorado to shoot some B-roll and location-specific scenes for the film in Pueblo, Denver, and....what was essentially the Freezing Middle of Nowhere. With the exception of Lauren, everyone's beards froze! (her "mocos" took a hard hit however). We are particularly grateful for all the wonderful friends who fed and housed us along the way.
And now, we are getting ready to finish up the last bit of production NEXT WEEK (and....one day in LA in the middle of March, but after that, we promise, we're finished!) The majority of next week's shoot will also feature our title character, Billy. And we know you've all been dying to FINALLY meet him....so we are proud and elated to introduce: JOHN HARDY!!
The Dead Billy team originally met Hardy through the awesome folks at Duke City Repertory Theatre. Hardy has been working with them since their first season where he played John in Oleanna and directed his adaptation of The Taming of the Shrew. For their second season he directed his adaptation of Oedipus the King, and most recently, Hardy performed his one-man production of A Christmas Carol and directed Poe, which closed yesterday at The Filling Station.
Wait! There's more! Hardy is also an Associate Artist with The Barter Theatre. He has been working around the country as a playwright, actor, director for over thirty years. Over the course of his career Hardy has directed over one hundred professional productions including Macbeth, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo and Juliet, Henry V, Julius Caesar, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Tartuffe, Man of La Mancha, and others. As an actor John has played many of the great roles including Hamlet, MacBeth, Tom Wingfield in The Glass Menagerie, Oberon in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Teach in American Buffalo, and many others. Hardy has recently returned from a national tour, playing George in Of Mice and Men. As an playwright he has had over forty productions of fifteen plays produced across the country and overseas. Hardy recently received the Sara Spencer Award, for lifetime achievement, from the Southeastern Theatre Conference. He holds an MFA from the University of Alabama and a PhD from Texas Tech University.
WHEW. Needless so say, we are humbled and feel pretty darn lucky to have the opportunity to work Hardy.
Once again, thank you all so much for your support, your donations, your inquiries as to when the movie will be done (soon!), and all your good wishes.
Stay updated, as we're sure you'll here more from us soon!
Team Dead Billy :)
The first phase of production on "Dead Billy" starts this weekend!
We want to give a quick shoutout to a couple locations that will be appearing in the film.
The first is Sister Bar, a completely rad new establishment in downtown Albuquerque. Located at 407 Central AVE. NW, Sister is poised to become one of the hippest watering holes in town.
We're also very pleased that our old friends at the Orpheum Arts Space have opened their doors for us. The scene we're shooting there is going to absolutely, full-on batshit insane! Orpheum proprietor Courtney Bell has been a longtime friend, and we're so grateful for her continued support.
The Orpheum is located at 500 2nd St SW in downtown Albuquerque. Contact them at (505) 715-2602.
Now let's go make a movie!
