Thanks for keeping us so properly updated about The Present. I can't wait to receive it and hang it in my studio. I'm giving away the second one to my bro and I simply can't wait to see his face when he gets it. I haven't told him anything yet, but I'm 100% positive he'll love this beautiful creative piece of art.. Best of luck with the final touches!

Even before I saw the video to end, I wanted this wonderful object as a frisbee. Spin off merchandise, please! Congratulations on the wonderful work, and please do choose the brushed steel - doesn't show fingerprints as much...
Hope the first production is numbered!

Just for the record I am happy to wait as long as it takes. As a pioneer I need to live through the learning phase. In a years time The Present will no doubt be delivered in 7 days but they won't be the first ones. I'll have one of those. Perhaps it will even be marked accordingly?

How do I pay the extra for international shipping????????????

Dear Scott - I concur with Richard that update #13 is stunning. Kudos for going for a lasting and sustainable product. Bamboo complements The Present very nicely. I've every confidence that it will be magnicifient - it's worth the wait. Thanks for the footage of Antarctica (it's the only continent I've yet to enjoy 'up close and personal' and am now all the more excited to get there). Thanks for your dedication and effort.

Scott, love update #12. No worries. Like all good projects and product developments, you are hitting the reality of dependence. And like a good PM, you're keeping your stakeholders well informed and engaged. Engineer it well, and in the meantime, to meet your 2500 initial investment, maybe all your < $120 backers will have time to save up and order one too, so you'll have your first batch guaranteed. Maybe you need a new status on this page to show how many orders you have against 2500? keep on moving, Natalie

On a less artistic, but more mercantile bent, I wonder if there would be a market for a Whiteboard version of the clock with the annual movement. One could write in events like "time to plant peas", "John's Graduation", "Jill's wedding", etc.. It could be another Kickstarter project though the hard technical part is already done.

    18. Fb_profile_picture.thumb
Gilbert Green Jr on December 12

A note to those who do nit understand why a "Clear" or even a White hand would be difficult. There are many of us who's vision has changed or are vision impaired. the BLACK hand will provide enough contrast to enable the "The Present" to be mounted on a wall or display on shelf across the room and still be seen. If it were a white or clear hand many vision impaired individuals would have to walk right up to The Present in order to see where the hand is.
I do think a hand in COPPER or Bronze would add a nod to Ancient cultures who marked the passage of time by the seasons.

    19. Fb_profile_picture.thumb
Gilbert Green Jr on December 12

Anyone here a read the original book or saw the movie Logan's Run"? In the distant future your life span is counted down by a "crystal"embedded in the palm of your hand. The crystal changes color every seven years. Until your thirtieth birthday, then it's "lights out". LOL There is something very cool and a bit "Logan's Run" to the Present. I would Pay to have a "clock" created similar to the Present, instead of Seasonal Color, I would like to see the passage of time not in hours and minutes, but from one Zodiac sign to the next. Anyone else think this could be an interesting idea?

    20. Missing_thumb
      Richard Hyde on December 11

The initial Kickstarter proposal stated "A custom microchip has been designed that accurately modifies the burst rate of seconds. A 'second' as we know it, on this clock, counts off once "every 6.08 days or 142 hours...". I love the idea of a standardized "Annual Movement", but I thought that bridge had been crossed WRT this project?

    25. Missing_thumb
Richard Hyde on November 15, 2011

I was tempted by the metallic hand concepts, don't understand the clear ones (why have a hand at all) and still prefer simple black. Iridescent would be interesting - changing with the season as well as the year. I have prisms mounted against high windows that cast annual colors against the walls. . .

agree with Ozwaldster. I think a subtle hand that lends itself to the surrounding background would be nice to make the viewer take a closer look. I would like to congratulate you on your overwhelming success with this project and look forward to receiving my "present".

    29. Missing_thumb
      Ozwaldster on November 10, 2011

I'd love to pledge more but only if i'm assured its' the clear /white hand. A black hand totally ruins the aesthetic and it should be a less definitive division of past and present to force you to pause and find where in the year you are. It shouldn't be obvious that its a clock. Whaddya think?

I like the bronze/copper idea, but if not that, I lean towards black just for its visibility. Hooray for a terrific project! I look forward to its surprising me every month or so when I notice it has changed.

      Scott,
I think this is a beautiful work of art. Simply sensational. Congratulations. I'm very pleased I came across it so close to your deadline and am able to participate. For my two cents I like the black hand, it defines time and the present perfectly.
One question which I was not quite clear on was the northern and southern hemisphere versions. I am in Australia. Would you not just set the hand 180 degrees to the northern summer for a southern hemisphere version? Why are you rotating the clock vertically?

    34. Missing_thumb
      Inara on November 9, 2011

The black is definitely easier to see, but I agree with the other comments that black doesn't seem to fit with the nature of the project. I like the bronze or copper idea - would that be doable financially?

      I agree with Gilbert&ELIZA

    40. Fb_profile_picture.thumb
Gilbert Green Jr on November 3, 2011

I love the BLACK hand as it will be much easier to see across the room. A few people have posted white or even "clear", but I think this would be very difficult to see in varied light conditions. Unless one has the eye sight of "Spring/Summer", a CLEAR or White hand would require those individuals in the Fall or Winter of their eye sight to have to walk right UP to see it .
But I love the idea posted by 'ELIZA HL' How about BRONZE OR COPPER? I think one of those "ancient" metals blends Technology with Ancient people/cultures who used the seasons
as their connection not only to mark passage of time but also their connection with Mother Earth and the community. Hey Thrift what do you think of ELIZA HL idea? Maybe this First series can be done with Copper or Bronze, making this of us who backed the initial project even more of a collectors item. Then in the next series to lower production costs, revert to a Black hand?

I like the thin black hand, if you are going to stay conventional. It is sleeker.

But since this is an unconventional clock, I think white, clear or even a neutral gray is cleaner, neater and a gentle reminder of "you are here, now"; plus it also lets the background colors stand out as a whole without dividing them.

But not that time clock thick black hand that just marks time and reminds you that it is passing and slipping away.

    44. Esteban.thumb
Esteban Sardera on November 2, 2011

Took another look at the intro video - definitely white or translucent...now that I see the black contrast it makes it look like a normal clock. Definitely loses meaning/impact with a black hand.

I don't know where to start, life changes so fast, I blink and were into a new month or year. The Present can't replace time, nor make you use time more efficiently, but I can't fault it, thank you for creating a symbol of time into the tangible. This will be a gift to someone very special. This is amazing. The design reminds me of a widget you'd have on the home screen of your smartphone except infinitely more beautiful. I cannot wait until I have it on my wall. Truly an inspired design.
