Richie is my dad. I am very very proud of him and what he is doing and the message he is sending out. I live in england which is a long way from my Mexico and I miss him loads. :( However i think that his idea is amazing and hope that more people can have the vision that he has and invest in some small way so that we can all see the fruits of his labour and really see, and enjoy, what it is possible to achieve with the right spirit and goodwill of mankind. This is an amazing project and I wish you all the best in the whole world dad. Xxx xxx

Richie and I go back a long way, we worked together in Germany during the 1980's, I had an idea to build a boat using plastic bottles inside, a Reinforced Plastic Hull. Richie has taken that idea a step further and built it ointo an Island, which I hope to come and live on for a short while, in July. Como Esta Ustedes Richie. I'm fine I hope you are too.

      See you soon. Ken Jackson.

This is probably one of the smartest things that i have seen, It take pollution and turns it into an arable landscape basically. I wish you the best of luck and hope that you make it, it would solve a world of problems if this works.

      Richie,
congratulations and many blessings to you for the continuing takeoff towards bigger and greater manifestations of this dream... you are a true visionary!
I want to share a little story: In 1996 I met Richie in Zipolite Mexico and we became friends. During that time, he started building the early prototype of his floating island, basically a simple, model version on the beach, with solar cookers and spiral artwork. For weeks, many of us hung out and played and made music and dreamed the dream of having a happy life on a self-sustaining floating island, made from plastic bottles and natural vegetation. Only one person was serious, well, as serious as he will ever be... and that was Richie. It was not symbolic for him, it was not a nice little traveler adventure. He was going to do this. And so he did. He started collecting all the plastic bottles he could find and started building, digging himself into the project. People moved on, neighbors and business owners were first, amused, than suspicious, some even hostile... I moved on too. Five years later I visit the Yucatan and I overhear a conversation of someone talking about this English guy living on a floating island nearby. I could not believe it, I was ecstatic. The next day I went to see him and it was all real. He had done it.
If you can, support this dream. Who knows where this could go and what this could become. I only know one thing: this guy is special. Rich-heart. Rich-dream. Good luck to you.

Scott Mader is looking to create an open source organic farm/educational center/artistic community/smurf village in Belize and wants your help. I am happy to house and feed all that are passionate and productive in what they do and are willing to share their knowledge and experiences with those around them.

Richart Sowa was born and raised in Yorkshire, England. From a very early age he was painting pictures for his family, and after working for ten years as a carpenter he began singing and playing guitar as he toured Europe sharing his eco-art and songs. His passion for the ecology grew as he traveled and noticed how our modern lifestyle is exponentially eating away oxygen-emitting green areas and polluting the air and oceans. The idea of turning trash into sustainable, oxygen-producing, water-cleaning land was an idea of his which he didn't think he would ever do, but when he arrived in Mexico and learned about the ancient floating Aztec islands he knew that this was the country where he could build his dreams into reality.
