Kickstarter

Hello everyone. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Scott Feiner and I call my music “Pandeiro Jazz”. If you don’t know what a pandeiro is, you’ll be amazed at what this great little Brazilian hand drum is capable of. Trust me.

So what does the pandeiro have to do with jazz? Well, historically, not much at all, but I decided to ignore that fact and and married the two of them around 2005. Since then I’ve released two highly acclaimed CDs, “Pandeiro Jazz” and “Dois Mundos” (which was actually nominated for a 2009 Latin Grammy award). So, why am I here on Kickstarter? Well, it’s time for the third CD! It’s actually already been recorded and even has a name - “Accents”. But there’s still a lot do, and the costs add up quickly. You might be asking, “Why is Scott doing this on Kickstarter after he released his first two CDs on respected record labels”? Well, the response is quite simple. These days it’s very difficult to get a label to pay for the production of a CD. I decided that I’d prefer to spend a little time and energy puting together this Kickstarter fund drive rather than chasing after record labels who even if they’re interested will still expect the recording to be completed on my dime. When I first saw Kickstarter a few months ago I thought, “This is fantastic! What a great way to be able to realize a project and let other people (that’s you) be involved in it”. With many people sharing in the cost it becomes much more viable than if I have to try to scrape up the money myself.

Now to tell you a bit about “Accents”. It was recorded in New York City (well, New Jersey actually, but that doesn’t sound as romantic) in two days with the same great musicians from my first CD. I’m talking about Joel Frahm, Freddie Bryant and Joe Martin, 3 highly respected musicians in the New York City jazz scene, not to mention worldwide. The big difference between my first CD and “Accents” is that the first CD was recorded without any real history of performing live together, while “Accents” documents a group that has performed together quite a bit. And without a doubt, I know that I grew as a pandeiro player during that time. The recording has 10 tracks. 4 of them are standards/covers while the other 6 are originals by Freddie Bryant, Joel Frahm and yours truly. If you’ve been to any of my gigs lately you’ve probably heard some of these tunes.

Why does Scott need all this money if the recording session has already taken place? Here’s a list of some of the expenses still ahead: Editing/mixing/mastering sessions; licensing fees for the cover songs; photography/graphic design, duplication. That’s just some of it. Also, the guys in the band need to get paid! I’m not talking about me, but rather my wonderful sidemen. This goal will actually be tight as far as covering everything, so I’m hoping that we can actually surpass it a bit. Trust me, the money will be used productively towards making this project as great as possible!
