Awesome! I'm so happy for you! Can't wait to see/hear.
Congrats! I can't wait to experience your journey
So freaking happy!! So glad. I was starting to sweat as my hands typed many a spam. Pretty sure a few of my mates jumped on board. Great work guys. Can't freaking wait. Especially for the soundtrack too!
Congrats guys! Can't wait for the result, keep the updates coming!
Holy wow, everybody. We're catching our breaths and then taking a sigh of relief. Already dreaming of it.
Congratulations!!!
woohoo...congrats guys! ;-)
iceland is my most favorite place in the world - I've yet to go -but I look forward to seeing all aspects of this project... and living vicariously through your journey :) I stumbled upon this and have no connection to you guys at all except for our love of Iceland! Be well!
Yup know....smart phone auto corrections really suck sometimes....but I think you get what I mean
I sure hope so. I'm pretty set on seeing this I'm the park, letting this consume my spring.
@Kyle - Homeboy, we feel the love. We're gonna get there together!
Man... if I had 7 G 's I'd end this thing right now!....
@John: challenge accepted - I've just upped my pledge and re-spammed my Facebook.
@John - increases in pledges over the last 48 hours has helped enormously. Like big time. We're with you on the spamming... there are 2,700+ Facebook "Likes" for the project, the math is simple ;)
I've upped by back by another $10. Trying to spam this. So freaking close in the grand scheme of things.
@Emma - My best estimate at this juncture would be approximately May 2012. The Chicago event will almost definitely be in June 2012. We want this to be highly crafted, plus all of the production and post-production time spent is all volunteered from each and every artist... so we will be taking the entire Winter to put it together.
But fear not! Scenic will be putting together a site for the project for backers and the public to see how it evolves and keep track of its' progress. And there will be goodies from that to hold you over, no doubt.
When can we expect the finished product?
I'm nervous! Hope the LA Times post will move some backers. Good luck!
great project. that trailer made me a backer. hope it will fund
Yeah, that's the field alright. The reason I mentioned it is because the girl from Iceland who talked about them painted a magical picture of being there, yet there are few photos online of that landscape. This seems silly because it's supposed to be unreal.
Regarding Sigur Ros, I thought that might be the case. Too bad because those Icelandic natives produce some of the most beautiful music in the world.
Good luck!
Neil - we just looked at some shots of F26 Sprengisandur... holy creepy. Ghosts and outlaws are right up our alley : )
Mark - The idea that the landscape itself is ever-changing and that we have no idea what it could look like when we get there is thrilling. I hope we can find volcanic rock fields like this one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mdsimages/3541233818/
PS - We would LOVE to have Sigur Ros involved in Outliers but I suppose we considered them out of reach. Anybody have inroads there?
I love it. Iceland is absolutely fascinating. I really hope you reach your goal. I met a girl from Iceland once who said their volcanic rock field is stunning. Hopefully that field will make it into your film.
On a side note, how come no Sigur Ros as an accompaniment on the score?
Fantastic idea, really hope it gets across the line.
I'd second Azimuth's call on Landmannalaugar - mind bending place! If I could suggest somewhere else, a trip across the F26 Sprengisandur highland road could be productive. Beautifully desolate with lots of old superstitious history of ghosts and outlaws.
Thanks Adam, we're really looking forward to the chance discoveries along the way... and Tim + Kim coming together for the first time is going to be an amazing collaboration.
I'll let Deru know about Olafur!
I'm very excited to see the outcome of this project. Iceland is the most incredible place I've ever visited and I can't wait to see how it looks through your lenses.
Can I suggest you contact the Icelandic musician Olafus Arnalds (@olafurarnalds)? He retweeted the project announcement, and his music would make a great inclusion.
@scenic As I understand it children in Iceland must work for their community for a certain amount of time when they are on school breaks. Some kids are stuck cleaning parks and such, but if you are a kid with musical abilities you can get a nice gig performing/singing for travellers at cultural centres and festivals. As a result many towns have little museums with children's choirs, folk bands or dance troops ect. That particular recording was made in Ísafjörður, in a tiny little nautical museum (if I remember correctly). This Museum also had a second floor with an amazing accordion collection on display, featuring accordion's made all over the world. These are the great little unexpected things you can look foreword to on your travels. Every town has some great little variation on this story.
Also, where did you record the children's choir? We had planned on contacting a traditional folk music performer or group to have a segment in the film and would love some suggestions for where to look.
Azimuth - Thanks so much for the recommendations! These are the types of suggestions that will help us make the most out of our time there.
That folk music recording is absolutely amazing. Can you imagine Deru getting his hands on this?
This sounds like a really great project. Glad to help fund it.
I spent a few weeks last year traveling around Iceland doing field recordings and if I might be so bold as to suggest a few places that you should look into, they would be: Landmannalaugar (in the interior, really beautiful), Ísafjörður (in northern fjords) and the glaciers near Skaftafell. But essentially every town as you travel turns up its own bit of the unexpected. Here is a link to a story of recording in iceland - http://www.azimuthaudio.ca/azimuth-blog/2011/6/1/arctic-terns-attack.html
and here is a link to a snippet I recorded of traditional Icelandic folk music - http://soundcloud.com/azimuthaudio/icelandic-hostoric-song
Good luck, can not wait to get the final project.
Scott - thanks so much for your support at Behance and for helping to spread the word. We're going to need it over the coming weeks! SO stoked about the collaboration and we're working on a few surprises along the way ;)
Really looking forward to this one!
Love Iceland, love your music, therefor I love your project
Kim & Team - Our team and I at Behance are thrilled to support and help spread the word. Excited to see this idea happen.
Thanks Peter, stay tuned for more updates on soundtrack artists as more confirmations come in.
Shane, that's fantastic. Any tips, suggestions, or experiences worth sharing for the hot springs?
Yes I have been there and I will return one day soon.
Very excited about this. Big fan of all the artists involved...been following and listening to many of them for years.
Shane, thanks brother! That's on our list of stops along the way and is likely to be one of the short films in the series. Looks incredible, have you been there?
Please include some photos of the blue lagoon hot springs near Keflavik. Thanks.
