The Pods Framework is a FREE plugin for WordPress that gives developers the ability to create / manage / deploy custom content types with a set of useful PHP classes and a GUI to manage it all within WordPress. Pods is backed by the Pods Foundation, a non-profit organization.
Pods 2.0 is the next major version of the framework and brings in a TON of new features. It's a huge undertaking especially since we've completely redone the UI. Along with 2.0, I'm also finishing up the new website that will bring our community closer together.
What's in Pods 2.0?
- Brand New UI from top to bottom
- Create / extend WordPress Objects like Post Types, Taxonomies, Users, and Comments
- New Components system to enable new larger features turned off by default
- Completely refactored code is optimized to perform faster and more efficiently while remaining backwards compatible with Pods 1.x installations
Why I need your help
My schedule has been tight as I try to make a living during the day. If I can get kickstarted with enough dough to cover my bills, I can knock the rest of Pods 2.0 out within two weeks or sooner! The more funding I get, the MORE time I spend.
I've already tried casually accepting donations towards helping with development time, but nothing can compare to the power of Kickstarter and the structure of rewards we'll provide backers! Let's get 2.0 out the door and onto your sites!
All additional money raised goes towards the Pods Foundation to help fund future development, travel for WordCamps and presentations, and hosting costs. So really, 2.0 is now funded - BUT you can still fund the foundation and everything it stands for.
Of course! You can always contribute online at http://podsfoundation.org/donate/
For those wondering.. Yes I've been working on 2.0 past the date I initially set for myself as a goal to get the Alpha testing phase started. We ran into some delays on the frontend side, which I ended up having to bring together some other frontend developers and get them trained and work within their schedules.
Jonathan, the primary UI contributor so far ended up having some schedule conflicts that, at first, seemed workable within what we were trying to do. It ended up being much more than he could do comfortably, so he had to drop back from the project and refocus on his tight work schedule. Luckily, the Kickstarter did so well that I was able to quickly put a budget on the frontend work and hire some other excellent frontend developers. The only problem there is that I've had to add time to work with them and get them trained on the direction we've been headed, as well as adjust to their schedule which with short notice hasn't been possible to get them working on it 100% full force. I'm very particular with ensuring the UI is not stepping backwards for the sake of time. Since Pods is a plugin with a huge userbase behind it, I can't take ANY risks that could cause big problems in code for 2.0 and 2.x releases. I've already spent close to the Kickstarter funding amount solely on development, which ended up coming out of my pocket technically since the Kickstarter was initially to help me take 2 weeks out of my own work schedule to pay my bills while I focused on Pods 2.0 - it's worth to me in the end though!
