The Wild Mustang/Horse, an animal America could not have been built without are being slaughtered to extinction by the BLM!
Section 1333: The Documentary
If everyone who loves and understands the role the horse played in the expansion of the human race gave $1-$3 we can convince Congress who is already on the fence about cutting the BLM's funding. Your donations will help create a viral documentary much like the last documentary I produced Gasland that won Sundance and was nominated for an Oscar.
The BLM has been rounding up mustangs in inhumane ways, finding loop holes to have these National Treasure Slaughtered, at facilities in Canada an Mexico and are outright lying about the number of Mustangs left to roam free in Nevada and they may possibly be heading toward extinction if someone doesn't do something. Congress is on the fence but some how each year gives them this money to keep this operation alive." Suzanne Roy (Wild Life Preservation Organization)
Mustang's Role In Building The U.S.A
It's very easy to say that America may not have survived and prospered without its best friend the horse. Upon arrival in the United States, horses were immediately put to work, not only like we see in the old western movies, in the big cities in the east because our ancestors still did not know how far west this land of ours went. The horse became the transportation for families and the hauler of heavy loads. They plowed the fields we used for food and immediately became our closest allies. As time of war they fought along side us, many losing their life in the name of freedom for America. Eventually these horses carried families and business men out west toward the great America Frontier, its vast land and all it had to offer. The explosive growth witnessed in America would have never been possible without the horse. The horses made the gold rush and the move west possible covering the long treacherous terrain.
The Current Situation For The Mustang
It is a journalists duty to be honest and only work with evidence that has been triple checked. If I was to speak freely about the Bureau Of Land Management (BLM), their operation to remove the natural wild Mustangs from Nevada and the atrocities you would hear may cause you to fall off your seat. Section 1333, another amendment to the 1971 Act that Annie passed to Make them National Treasures. Under Section 1333, the BLM has found loopholes to become contract killers of Wild Mustangs. Unfortunately, right now we can only report data we know first hand, meaning a team member has documented this and the evidence is clear as day. We have had ex-BLM staff members offer us information and have also had contact with the Mexican slaughterhouses asking where their large amount of horse comes from and they ID'd the Nevada region. Each year the BLM has been going back to Congress at the tune of 10-13 million dollars to keep this operation alive. The BLM themselves are not allowed to slaughter a Mustang but there are several loopholes that allow them to pass the buck. There are also many mass burial sights found that indicate that perhaps during unpublicized roundups, hundreds were killed. There is no agenda for the preservation of this National treasure and if left unstopped we may be looking at an animal that was in the 2 millions, now endangered. There is no independent secondary association permitted to be monitoring this activity and then BLM has a clear agenda. Their argument is that these horses, that have been living there way before you and I, are competing with the cattle. Which, by the way, is a growing population being planted by the BLM. So at the end of the day, its the money from cattle and the competition the horses allegedly provide for water and grazing, none of which is accurate and helicopter images confirm enough resource for both animals. What you see to your left was a mass grave site that an ex-BLM employee, obviously unwilling to give his identity led us to. That same employee said that the men would sit around talk about horses as vermin, the lowest form of animal life and it was common knowledge inside the BLM that it was their job to eliminate.
BLM Round-ups & Traps
After the protection legislation passed in 1971, no more vehicles and other types of machinery can be used to round them up. In 1976 this was amended to only allow Helicopters and men on horse on the ground. They use these helicopters to run them to death where in many documented situations horses died before even reaching a trap from exhaustion by the forced running by the helicopters. After the horses are completely exhausted, they coral them into a BLM trap where they can have large number, way to many for the coral creating stampedes that cause additional death and eventually try to get these horses on a truck. Horses are much like humans when it comes to their family units and in these round-ups, Stallions and Mares are purposely broken up for life. Foal's if they survive are without the nursing of their mother and with the intense emotional abilities of these horses it can cause such trauma that it can damage a horse forever. In fact 20% of horses held in the BLM holding facilities die with in 6 months from trauma and stress. Worse is the methods used to trap, coral and than transport these herds to holding facilities. Horses within a certain age and health status are eventually eligible for adoption but those who don't meet the criteria are condemned to an inhumane fate. It has been documented that these horses may receive no water or food on the road trips or at their arrival destination. These BLM facilities have never been open to the public to view. Next overwhelming data suggests these animals are slaughtered in the most inhumane way in slaughter houses in Mexico and Canada and than sent to places like France and China for food or their remains are sometimes just used as fertilizer. Above is an image of a Foal, emaciated after separation from it's mom. Below is another look at a long term facility, with the amount of damage to these horses and malnourishment it seems pretty obvious that there is a different plan fort them. The numbers in the holding facilities range in the 30,000's although no one can be sure. The cost of holding and caring for the horses seems to diminish the value for life and the quality of care and puts added pressure on the BLM to reduce numbers however possible. It is this teams belief that all animals should be treated human regardless of the circumstance and the un publicized evidence is over whelming.
Why Are They Doing This?
This is an easy question to answer with the price of cattle being significantly higher than that of the Wild Mustang and any additional costs it may force the BLM to accrue to guarantee the safety and preservation of these horses just affect their bottom line. First off, cattle where only native to Nevada in small lots and the great number we see now have all been imported by the BLM. Its also important to note that these Wild Mustangs trace back to these lands in Nevada from1,550 AD and 1,600 AD rightfully claiming this land as their home. If we don't make this documentary fast and spread the word fast, our good ole American payback is genocide to s species. For a second lets forget about all the work the Mustang did helping humans build America, losing their life for our freedom, they are being relocated and slaughtered because of someones plan that cattle will make them more money. You will here from the BLM stating that these two animals are fighting over limited resource to survive. Several independent studies have shown that they can coexist and their are enough resources for both. So before we kick our National Treasure off of its land to make money selling cattle, lets have our facts straight on the environmental impact. Because the BLM is losing the fact war they are working on all the different loopholes that allows them to remove and slaughter the horses without it being technically the BLM.
Horses that stray out of their designated roaming area are legally allowed too be killed. There are several ways the BLM can operate within the confines of the law despite their lack of either full understanding or care of the heavy consequences. The BLM plans to reduce the population on public lands to about 20,000, removing at least 11,500 wild horses and burros in 2010. This number is below the minimum necessary to sustain healthy populations, according Dr. Gus Cothran, equine geneticist at the University of Kentucky. The minimum number of horses and burros in each herd management area (HMA) needs to be at least 150 animals, says Cothran; under BLM plans, about 70 percent of the HMAs will have fewer than 100 animals. The BLM regards March – July as peak “foaling season,” and generally does not conduct roundups during that time. In the final weeks of the roundup, on-site observers saw many heavily pregnant mares being driven into BLM traps during the helicopter stampedes. During this round-up, just months ago, onlookers witnessed several Mares go into spontaneities abortion..
Our Documentary Format & Goal
With some of the inherent similarities of The Cove, our team plans to catch the BLM, along with the third parties that aid them, first hand. We aim to catch them with a smoking gun in their hand. The documentary will start with a gut wrenching hook to keep our audience ready for anything and than it plans on spending the first act telling the story of how the Mustang became an American Icon, its role in the development of America, the Frontier and its importance pre-industrial revolution.
Act II will quickly switch gears to Horse Annie and her fight from 1959 to 1971 and despite how much public support she received, the second they could, her Act was dismantled in a clever way leaving the untrained eye to believe the Mustangs were still protected but in fact their protection from the BLM was becoming non existent. Then the Burns Act is put in order, allowing the BLM to sell any horse they want to whomever they want and after a year of ownership giving that party has the ability of doing whatever it wants to that one or lot of mustangs including slaughtering them. We then meet our team of specialist who plan on going above and beyond to catch the BLM in outright lies as well as following the chain of possession of these horses. The team will consist of recon specialist who's job is only to find out what the BLM operation in Nevada is up to at every second. A secondary team with all forms of high-tech equipment will be ready to deploy if their are planning anything day or night that they did not announce to the press. We will also work hard at planting several insiders, one at the local field office as a receptionist, one local cowboy willing to help coral as well as helicopter informants that let us know any movement they plan on making.
Act III will be a continuation of the capturing of these mustangs and will then follow these trucks filled with wild Mustangs to their short and long term holding facilities and develop relations with those ranches. We will also interview experts on horse preservation, members of the BLM, and do everything to make sure that both sides of this issue have a voice. Eventually we want to follow a truck from a long term facility to a slaughter house which will prove that the BLM, despite not slaughtering these horses themselves, find loopholes to do so and their clear agenda is making money off of the cattle the replaced these Mustangs with, throwing them off of their home land.
Ultimately we will create a chain of possession linking the BLM to the slaughtering of 10's of thousands of Mustangs. We will also illustrate quite graphically the inhumane treatment and slaughtering of these animals and restore them back to the status of National Treasures.
Some larger investors will be repaid with gains but the production team is donating all of it's profits to a center for adoption or build our own in New Mexico.
Yes, round-ups are scheduled for July and production must start within a month. Without the awareness of a documentary like ours extinction is inevitable.
We are projecting $200-$300 thousand dollars.
Currently a distributor is not attached due to the teams desire to be flexible and as it is our goal to be in theatres, we plan on doing the full festival circuit with a marketing plan and will obviously find a TV home.
If you've seen the Cove, that is the best example, we want to have much of the fil,m take place in the present tense.
Yes, the BLM is part of the department of the interior, they don't want to be caught red handed on video and despite our teams desire to always stay within the law, trespassing may be necessary to be close enough.
