Update #22: Couches of Detroit
Hello Kickstarter Friends,
Since moving to Detroit, I've had great opportunities to consider a set of surroundings and economic circumstances very different from that of New York City, and have begun to create art that is reflective of this new environment. Foremost among my ongoing projects is Couches of Detroit - a set of 12 urban landscapes, each featuring an abandoned couch on the streets of Detroit, to be transformed into a full-color 2012 calendar.
Today I have launched a kickstarter page for Couches of Detroit. Printing costs for the calendar are greatly reduced if I order in bulk; my hope is to secure 500 pre-orders that will enable me to offer this calendar for only $15, including postage. If my goal is met by July 1st, the calendar will be available September 1st.
The kickstarter page can be found here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sarawithanh/couches-of-detroit
Any support you can offer, whether by pledging or simply spreading the word, is much appreciated.
Yours,
Sarah Sharp
Update #21: Postcards to the People
Hi guys,
If you pledged for postcards, you probably got an email asking for your pertinent information so I can send them out to you. For people getting less than the full set of 50, there was an option to specify either 1 state from the set of 10 or 3 from the set of 25, but then apparently no place for you to actually tell me which you want.
You can do that here, if you like. Postcards should arrive today and start going out this week, so do that soon, if you care to.
Incidentally, if you live in NYC and would like to see some of this work in person, I'll be part of a group show, opening this Friday at the Think Gallery, part of Think Coffee on Mercer St. in Manhattan. More info here: http://thinkgallerynyc.com/
If you live in NYC, already pledged for postcards, and would rather pick them up in person at the show, just let me know and I can give them to you in person!
Thanks!

I'd like Maine (my home state), New York (my current state) and New Jersey (my husband's home state). Thanks! Can't wait to see them!

Got my postcards through today! Many thanks - they're really great. To know they have been picked personally makes them even better. Great work, Sarah.

Update #20: Changing States book release!
Hello! Remember me? That girl who went to all the states! I am working hard on your art rewards, and today marks the launch of Changing States - selected photos and observations from my time on the road - and you can check it out here (if you pop the preview in full-screen mode, you can even read a bit of it).
Now, here's the tricky part - blurb.com is having a contest with a travel category, and if I win I will get $3,000 (which I could really use, because it turns out getting to all 50 states is pretty expensive. Who knew?). If you can spare me a moment of your time, please click that link and vote for Changing States so I can qualify for the final round. If you'd like to encourage everyone you know to also vote for my book, that would be excellent.
Incidentally, if you are one of the fabulous people who pre-ordered this book, feel free to admire the preview but obviously don't purchase it - I am filling those orders myself, even as you read this. If you are not one of those people and you want to buy a copy, I won't stand in your way, but really just voting for the book would mean a lot. For extra credit, make a comment, blog it, or otherwise get the message to the people.
Much appreciated,
Sarah

Update #19: 47/48/49/50 - That's the Game!
Hello! I'm writing to you from Chicago, where I have landed after a whirlwind couple of days finishing off my states project.
You can see Colorado pics here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/trixiepix/sets/72157622407826717/
Nebraska here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/trixiepix/sets/72157622421431759/
South Dakota is in progress here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/trixiepix/sets/72157622548869028/
over the weekend I will finish posting S. Dakota and Iowa. It feels good to be done. Over the next several weeks I'll be moving into a new apartment and setting up shop, then working on lovely art items to reward you for your interest and support.
Thank you for both!
Update #18: 46/50: Equal RIghts
It's funny how things work differently in pictures. I could have sworn that nothing much was going on in Wyoming, but upon reviewing my photos, I find that it was an astounding, true-West kind of state, full of breathtaking land- and skyscapes.
Well, see for yourself!
Onwards to Colorado. Getting close to 50!

Update #17: 45/50: Utah? Metah!
I know, you were thinking to yourself, "I haven't gotten a status update in awhile, but there are still 6 states to go. What gives?"
OK, I was resting. 50 is a lot. I'm on the home stretch now, blazing a trail back to Detroit, so I can start producing various art merchandise to inspire and entertain you.
Til then, here's Utah: http://www.flickr.com/photos/trixiepix/sets/72157622393222007/

Wait - the Flickr photos aren't supposed to inspire and/or entertain? I've been using it all wrong.

Update #16: 44/50: HI from HI!
Hello all,
You can start to view pictures from Hawaii here -- a few more, including my sea turtle encounter, will be filtering in there over the next day or so. Mahalo, and enjoy!
Aloha!
Update #15: 43/50: Ready OR not!
Hello all,
What could make your Wednesday more complete than looking at some pictures from Portland, Oregon? Nothing? You're in luck! Pay special attention to the one from Waffle Window (hint: it features waffles), as the experience of eating there has forever changed me. That's what this trip is all about, really -- learning, growing, changing, through delicious and innovative breakfast combos.

Speaking of which, I better mosey on down to VooDoo Doughnuts and get a bacon maple bar for the road; I got a flight to Hawaii tomorrow!
Update #14: Bearstravaganza!
Update #13: Bear with me!
Update #12: Alasktastic.
Just thought I'd drop you a quick line to let you know that Alaska has been exactly as wonderful as one might expect from obsessively watching Northern Exposure or Discovery Channel. I have exercised my skills as a wildlife photographer (Oh yes, there were bears. Bears and bears, and as a bonus, bald eagles!), wished often for a telephoto lens, and eaten more wild blueberry pie than is probably healthy.
Tomorrow I make way back to "the lower 48" where I will begin to sort through my photos for your viewing enjoyment. Thanks to all of you who helped make this happen; I hope the last 8 states on my tour can follow up on this!

Update #11: 41/50: Hope for the Future & Last Call!
Hello friends, loved ones, kind strangers,
First of all, here's Washington for your viewing enjoyment:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/trixiepix/sets/72157622017103841/
Secondly, this evening I sail for Alaska, not to return for two entire weeks. This means I will soon have wonderful pictures for your edification, but it also means I will be out in the middle of a giant no-internet zone for the last two weeks of my fund-raising.
So I leave it in your capable hands. If you can find a way to mention the project to one or two people (or everyone you know), I'd appreciate the backing.
See you in September, with tales of The Last Frontier!
Update #10: 40/50: 'ho, 'ho, 'ho!
A little Idaho never hurt anybody: http://www.flickr.com/photos/trixiepix/sets/72157622140426648/
Now an extended stay in Washington State, before taking the ferry up to Alaska. I will be posting my Alaska photos here and only here, with backers-only access. Don't you feel special?!
Update #9: 39/50: Big Sky
Here's Montana, for your viewing enjoyment:

Wagons Westward! Idaho-ho!

I was born and raised in a small town in southeastern Idaho - Montpelier. If you happen to go through there, there is a giant concrete "M" on the hill overlooking the town, and a huge water storage tank up there as well. That's probably the signature feature of the town.

Update #8: 38/50 - Discover the Spirit!
Here are some of the pictures of North Dakota that YOU helped create!

Some really beautiful shots of North Dakota and Minnesota. I especially like the fields of sunflowers and another one of the lonely house under the guise of an approaching storm.
