The possibilities in Garden Design can seem endless. As young professionals in the field, we are curious in our exploration of nature's depths. Now, we have been challenged by the Southern California Spring Garden Show to examine and demonstrate our own interpretation of a Healing Garden.

Our goal is to design and build a healing garden which is progressive, beautiful, and rejuvenating to one's physical, mental and emotional being.  Each aspect of the garden will be questioned for it's usefulness and how it applies to our goal. Color, texture, scale and flow will be scrutinized, with special attention to sensory factors. Currently, we are in the research phase, moving into the design phase.

Once the design is complete, we will start purchasing materials and building. The entire 12'x12' garden will be constructed in an off-site workspace. A few days before the show starts, the plants will arrive and be installed in the garden. Water features and lighting will be given a last test-drive before the entire garden is dismantled in one night and put back together in our spot right in South Coast Plaza's Crystal Court!

To create our garden for this show we will need to acquire many materials. Some items for building include: lumber, fasteners, sheet rock, plaster, paint, pumps, stone, gravel and sand. In addition, we will need trees, shrubs, perennials and ground covers. There must also be furniture, accessories and lighting. We are striving to put every dollar to it's best use, and your pledges will go directly toward purchasing these materials.

Our grateful team is comprised of Sarah's Gardens Landscape Design and Garden Pros Landscape & Construction. Principals Sarah Robinson and Eloy Figueroa met 2 years ago while taking horticulture classes at Orange Coast College. They share a love of art, continued learning and exploring innovations in their fields. Last year, they headed the design and build of OCC's entry garden at the Southern California Spring Garden show. The entry won first place in it's educational catagory, first place in "best representation of the theme" and was acclaimed by guest speaker Jamie Durrie of HGTV. They are both very excited to have been asked to return as a Professional Entry.
