Update #3: This is the only thing I'm redoing (besides the shading)
So this and the shading are the ONLY TWO THINGS I am redoing. Vea was the first minicomic in the series; it was actually the first longish, story-based minicomic I ever tried. And I was so green, and so eager to finish it, that, well, in hindsight I probably cut a few corners. I have never been happy with how I depicted the sky in Vea. It's supposed to convey a swirling ocean, a never-ending tangle of ever-present clouds, and I lazily fell back on the shorthand of a few swirly pen strokes, and a smoky photoshop standard brush texture.
But those clouds have always felt a little subpar for me, so I've been working on redoing the cloud texture. Here's page 3, a quick before and after shot. I think the new texture fits in better with the rest of the artwork, and conveys more of a sense of depth and dimension. It still needs a little tweaking, but I definitely feel like I'm on the right path. (Keep in mind these are still greyscale, but the final printed version will be converted to a brown duotone. Probably PMS 1545, it's always been one of my favorites.)
In other news: in addition to the epilogue I'm writing and drawing for the completed book, I'm going to be writing a little author's note afterword, which will include a few paragraphs on each story, where the idea came from, things like that. Three of the six stories came directly from dreams that I had, and one is from a dream that my brother had. The other two, the first two, were adapted from stories that the same brother wrote, and there are some interesting tidbits behind both of those as well.

My name is Sarah Becan, and I'm an illustrator, comics artist, author, and graphic designer based in Chicago, Illinois. I'm the founder of Shortpants Press, and a prolific minicomics artist. In 2010 I received a Xeric Grant to publish my first graphic novel, the Complete Ouija Interviews. I've been nominated twice for an Ignatz award, and I won a Stumptown Trophy Award for Outstanding Debut.
I also draw a webcomic called "I Think You're Sauceome," which I update three times a week.
In my copious spare time, I play the accordion, and also video games.
