ReinCOWnation is a CORE project for Burning Man 2012. Houston is gathering to deliver a long horn effigy emerging from the playa.
ReinCOWnation is our symbolic public offering at Burning Man. It's an interactive sculpture of a gaunt but strong longhorn steer emerging in triumph from the desert floor. The longhorn is a classic Texas symbol, but also a universal symbol of virility and fertility, honoring Burning Man's theme for 2012. For us, it also represents both the powerful urge to create, and the struggle often necessary to bring our creations to life.
ReinCOWnation will be one of 34 effigies in Burning Man's Circle of Regional Effigies (CORE). They are created by regional groups of burners around the world. They will encircle the base of the Man in a 600 foot ring in support of the Burning Man ethos as a global cultural movement.
It is a huge honor that ReinCOWnation has been chosen to be a part of Burning Man this year. This will be the first Houston CORE effigy to grace the playa and we have roughly six weeks to raise $25,000 and build the bull, with 100% Houstonian volunteer power! We need your help to get this bull to Burning Man!
Our progress is continuing to develop! This is the preliminary structure to our fine bull! We are nearly ready for our CNC job for the full scale!

CNC Model Style A - This is a model that is laser cut from 1/8" birch wood and arranged in a topographic method we're referring to as "Style A". The dimensions are 9" tall, 9" wide and 12" in depth. This captures all the beautiful detail that is depicted in the clay model our team member, Gerry Valdez, created. The clay model was translated into a digital model and generated into this representation by team member, Brey Tucker.
