Lilia is a film about a man's struggle to keep his family's life intact after losing his job.
MY GOAL: To make "Lilia" by the end of March. The internet is a beautiful place. I've had nothing but positive experiences with it; it's made me new friends, and new contacts in the film world. Now I would like to harness it's potential. I want to tap into people's giving spirit and collective support to make my new film a reality. In fact, the idea for the film came from an unlikely source on....you guessed it, the Internet. View video above for more on that.
WHAT'S LILIA? "Lilia" is a story about a man's struggle to keep his family together, after losing his job. He has a 5-year-old daughter named Lilia, and he's working to make her happy and keep his wife in school. But they have gone into massive debt trying to pay a mortgage on a home they can't afford, and, like many families, they are living paycheck to paycheck. Then one day the rug gets swept from beneath their feet and they find themselves fighting for all they've worked for. They make a decision that can save their belongings and daughter's happiness, but risk their future as a family. This is the story of the desperate measures people take, and how the very things we work so hard to accumulate can tear us apart.
THE FUNDING Every contribution will go toward the funding and completion of the film. Filmmaking is an expensive endeavor: even on a small, independent film, every aspect costs A LOT, from the cast and crew, to lights and lenses. So Producer Ralph Lopez and I thought we'd give crowd source funding a try.
The donations will be used to pay cast and crew for their time; the remaining funds will go toward equipment rentals. While $3,000 isn't nearly enough to complete this film, it will get us started, and we will be eternally grateful to those who help us out. We will be keeping you all up to date on the progress of the film, with video updates and Twitter and Facebook posts.
Our Last film "Trash Day," was a great success, and was a selection at many film festivals, including: SXSW 2010, the San Antonio Film Festival, the LA Shorts Film Festival, The San Francisco Shorts Film Festival, The Dallas Video Fest, the SAL Film Festival, the Flatland Film Festival, and The Rockport Film Festival. It has taken home a Jury Award from SAL and received the Best Short at the Seguin Film Festival, Best Director at the Long Island Film Festival, and the Chris Caddel Flatland Filmmaker Award.
