I have received a lot of concerned emails and just wanted to let everyone know very quickly that we are safe and fine here in Tokyo. It was quite a horrifying shake in the city, but it's the coast that was hit the hardest. Please direct all your thoughts and prayers towards those families. The death toll is rising out there, and there is talk of problems with the coastal nuclear plants.
But thank you to everyone for your concern! Ironically enough, I was in a gallery discussing my next exhibit when this all occurred. As the paintings started to fall off the walls I figured it was time to run outside the building! I've never had such an experience. After being stranded in the most congested station of Tokyo with trains down indefinitely and waits for taxis and buses averaging 3-4 hours, I walked 2 and a half hours to my friend's house.
I am now home in Tsukushino, safe and sound. Let's all send our love to the north where they are struggling to keep warm and fed.
Thanks everyone! All my love to you and yours and my neighbors on the coast.
