About this project

We need your help to send Ryan Saranich & the All-Star Quintet to the World Saxophone Congress XVI in St. Andrews, Scotland (July 10-15, 2012) to do a World Premiere of new music!!

About the Event:

For a saxophonist, the World Saxophone Congress is one of the greatest honors on this planet - I understood this after performing with four groups at the last Congress in Bangkok, Thailand in 2009. Essentially, the WSC is an educational event, which gathers the top saxophone players from every country in the world. The event only happens once every three years, and this is World Saxophone Congress XVI, taking place at St. Andrews University, St. Andrews, Scotland

Why do we want to go?

The opportunity to premier music- especially my own- is always one that I love taking up, although the chances are few and far between at times. This event is especially exciting for us because it will be the premier of music that I have been working on personally since a few months previous to going to school at Berklee College of Music (2009- and funny enough, I started writing for this record on my way back from the previous Congress). My new record set to release late next year, “Story”, is a story of my life across a two year period, featuring the people that I love to make music with the most, "The All-Star Quintet”. The entire record was written with them in mind. In its final form on the recording, it will feature the ASQ with a horn section coming from my other group, Ryan Saranich & Pocket Language, as well as a massive symphony. For me, the opportunity to not only premier music at the Congress, but also at one of the UK’s finest jazz clubs, the Jazz Bar (Edinburgh, Scotland) is a double-whammy! Many people would never be this lucky to have this opportunity.

Our journey as I said previously includes premiering pieces at the World Saxophone Congress, a two-night residency at The Jazz Bar (a venue catering to some of the biggest jazz performers in the world), as well as a few clinics in Scotland and England.

I’m fortunate enough to be (hopefully) joined on this endeavor by my favorite people to play with in the entire world:

-Nicolai Levring (guitar): A Danish superstar guitarist, who left Berklee to pursue a career as one of the finest young guitarists in Europe…..and succeeded. See him here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwTSyrIEtWI

-J.P. Bouvet (drums): My first Berklee friend from day one, now battling for the title of Guitar Center’s National Drum Off, and Roland’s International V-Drums Competition. A fantastic live and session musician who has been exponentially more recognized by the year. See him here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LobHoce2Byw

-Eli Marcus (bass): A Berklee Alumnus with credits from Lee Ritenour to Steve Vai, and Chaka Khan to Jeff Lorber. Needless to say, an in-demand session and touring bassist who truly breathes life into what he plays. See him here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGlsmEdkffg

-Dave Mackay (Piano)- hailing from England, Dave is an on-demand session player and performer, completing a degree at Berklee. See him here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AmOM1q32ME

-Jorge Perez-Gonzales (Percussion): Spaniard Jorge PG is considered one of the most renowned experts on Afro-Cuban music as well as Flamenco, traveling and giving clinics and performances for his endorsers all year, as well as performances with RSASQ and his own group, PATAX. See him here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1hsIvO3Wqk

-Last but not least, Kyle Lambert (guest, Trumpet)- An all-star performer on performances and sessions in Boston, Kyle is lending a hand and his skills to help premiere these charts with his silky trumpet sound. Likely the same one that got him a full-tuition scholarship at Berklee College of Music.

Ryan Saranich

Has not connected their Facebook account.

Time and time again, you'll find his name associated with major performances and great recordings, and Ryan continues to step up to the plate and prove himself as one of the finest young talents in the United States. Nate Morton (NBC's "The Voice", Cher, Madonna, CBS RockStar TV series, MTV's Rock the Cradle TV series, Vanessa Carlton) proclaims:

"Rarely have I seen a player so talented in so many aspects of music and its production. Songwriter, producer and a remarkable multi-instrumentalist, his talents transcend genre. Ryan is a rare breed of renaissance musician."

From 5 years old onward, Ryan has been studying music very seriously. As a graduate of the prestigious Northwest School of the Arts, he’s had the opportunity to focus his education with the help of some of the finest teaching professionals in the world. Now years later as Ryan is consistently touring and recording in venues across the world, he’s continuing to further his education as a student on scholarship to the renowned Berklee College of Music.

In years leading up, Ryan has been a consistent call for Saxophones, Drums, Bass and Piano/Keyboards/Organ as well as a respected producer and engineer. His discography includes recordings and motion-picture scores not only from the United States, but also recordings from Brazil, Italy and many other countries. Currently you can find Ryan’s music on 4 continents. Currently a Saxophone Principal at Berklee, Ryan still receives multiple calls a week as a recording artist on drums, bass and keyboards in the studios throughout Boston. Coupled with great magazine and online reviews, plus an award nomination from the Kennedy Center for a theatrical score, Ryan’s music only continues to grow.

J. Johnston (St. Croix Music Magazine May 2010) says: "....The first thing that grabbed me about Ryan’s music was his application of flowing melodic content over top of gut wrenching grooves..."

Joseph Wooten (Victor Wooten Band, musical director of the Steve Miller Band) says: "Ryan Saranich is one of the very talented upcoming young jazz writer/arranger/soloists on the scene. With his multi-leveled abilities, the sky is his only limit."

Not only a performing and recording artist, Ryan’s skills extend to composition and arranging too. Notably, Ryan’s song, “If You Never Knew” was premiered in May of 2010 by Croatia’s National Big Band, HRT Big Band, who further performed the song for the European Broadcast Union. Ryan continues to write music for the HRT Big Band. Additionally, Ryan’s work can be heard performed by the NC State “Pachelbels” Women’s Choir and a number of small-ensemble groups in the United States.

As well, Ryan is a sought-after clinician, giving clinics and master classes throughout the year for various music stores and institutions of higher learning concerning saxophone, bass, drums, piano and a series of topics ranging from playing musically to jazz improvisation. Currently, Ryan has been traveling as an endorsing artist and clinician for Legere Reeds, most recently performing a string of concerts and clinics for them in New York City, Toronto and Los Angeles. Ryan is also very proud to endorse Jody Jazz Mouthpieces, Massaccio Saxophones, Curt Mangan Strings, Subsistence Drums, Neotech Saxophone/Bass/Case Straps, Intellitouch Tuners, Clark Viper Oil and Mono Cases, and promotes these products as an artist at the NAMM Show.

Currently, Ryan keeps an extensive tour schedule while completing degree requirements at Berklee, where he is also performing on at least one recording session per week on various instruments, while in Boston.

Other things I'm proud of?

I get to travel and do a good amount of work as an artist and clinician for Legere Reeds, throughout the year.
Was nominated for some sort of award from the Kennedy Center in 2008
