About this project
Hello, I am Rustin McCann. On April 16th, 2011 I will be exhibiting "From my Archive," a mixed media installation at the Cranbrook Academy of Art Museum as part of the Class of 2011 Graduate Thesis Exhibition. You are all invited!
This is the largest project I have ever undertaken. There will be approximately fifteen-hundred 4x6 inch photo prints affixed to the outside of an 8ft cubic room. The prints will be separated and tagged by category. On the inside of the room there will be a dual channel video projection.
The piece is a culmination of my continued artistic exploration between my own experiences around male identity and those of the other members of my milieu. While I have used other photographic forms during this exploration, I have never stopped making snapshots. The snapshots, edited from my archive of the last five years, give a glimpse into my world, and as a whole act as a portrait of me. The video however, with its democracy of aesthetics, acts as a more honest representation of the people in my milieu.

I was born on the west coast, raised on the east, and schooled on the third coast. I received my BA from Oberlin College in 2005 and I am currently a second year MFA student in photography at the Cranbrook Academy of Art.
