Saw the film in Toronto, it is awesome, packed house and a standing ovation...this film should be seen by everyone...Suki, Michael and David and team have really outdone themselves. It is a story that needs to be told...a cautionary tale!

property rights are one of the most important fundamental rights in America. Eminent Domain is very serious business and if abused by government, usurps that right and tears at the very .fabric of this country. Thanks for shedding some light

Happy to support this in whatever way I can.

What should also be pointed out is the irony that New York City's government is now placing an eminent domain-driven economic development bet on the hapless New Jersey Nets. Just as it did in midtown on the nearly bankrupt New York Times. Functioning families and businesses are being booted for losing enterprises. (And for the aggrandizement of the elected officials involved.)

If there is ever proof that this is not right, it's right there. The government doesn't have the competence to play this game. Its "winners" are now proving to be losers. The market moves too fast for government to predict the future and provide "economic development."

Come on this is so close, fellow supporters, and everyone else who thinks this is a good project to be funded, go to (and join) Digg and vote up this project, and give it a last minute injection of people power: http://digg.com/movies/Kickstarter_Battle_of_Brooklyn Its got 3 diggs right now but lets see if we can't do better than that - there's so many of us!

I can't tell you how energized and hopeful this film and effort makes me, even in light of the very sad news from yesterday that came to Dan and family. Keep fighting... you make all of us more aware, hopefully more awake, as to the immense threats we face from greed, corporations, and politics. God bless you all -- the communities fighting this fight and the the filmmakers documenting it so it's never forgotten! I will send a link around to my friends, both in NYC and elsewhere (I live in Providence, RI).

      thanks Lisa,

I suggest you take a look at Mindy Fullilove's book - "Root Shock"- it details a lot of the things that you discuss. Often time eminent domain is sold to the public as something that will help out poor people- but the evidence (even from an economic standpoint) belies this idea. Further, most of the studies rely on economic data and don't consider the vast psychological and social implications of these actions.

I have been following this situation for a while now, and I don't live in Brooklyn. It's just despicable that Brooklyn residents have been brainwashed into thinking they'll get jobs out of this. People in need hallucinating a mirage. This is a serious moment in history and the beauty and hope of Brooklyn is being trampled by big capitalistic boots in the faces of poor people who hope against hope that someone could care about what they need. Well, some people care...but it isn't Forest City Ratner. It's the people studying the history of these kinds of projects and the results of those projects, which have been to destroy any sense of caring communities that nurture and develop people out of poverty, and into dignity through tolerance and generosity and education. This project is important to Brooklyn and to the entire city. because if Brooklyn becomes a wasteland for the poor and a security nightmare for the wealth, the middle class will continue to be trampled on and beaten to the ground. Keep up this important effort at communicating a hope for something better for our city!

Best of luck with this project. I live in a building where the new owner has tried to scare/bully tenants under rent control into leaving (i.e. threatening to tell the authorities that certain residents are in the US "without papers"). With modesty, a project like this is so important in these times with much distractions and the number of vulnerable people growing. Thanks!

When the Supreme Court made the bipartison decision to nationalize controlling interest in the future disposition of all property all homeowners became like slaves assigned the task of housesitting their property until arraingement for it's theft could be bartered in exchange for campaign contributions and empty promises of increased tax revenue. I say "like slaves" not "slaves" because real slaves got to work for free while we are expected to pay taxes and mortgage for this privelege. All property value has dropped in value since the decision an amount reflective of the worth of that controlling interest and that lost value won't ever come back unless the decision is reversed. Home ownership has become a bad deal. If developers, politicians and judges feel the greater good is more important than the rights of the individual doesn't that mean they wouldn't mind being harvested for their organs? Seven people could be saved with the organs each one of them so greedily hoard. Everybody then will win. They get to see the greater good served which what they say they want, the rest of us will get live in a country where the rights of the individual are respected in the American tradition once their all gone which is what polls show 95% of us want, the authors of the Declaration of Independence will once again have their call to duty to throw off tyrants and usurpers honored and a lucky few will get new hearts and livers. See, everybody wins

To Rumur I received the email regarding Kelo I was a strong supporter of Ms. Kelo, I wrote her about the eminent domain case in the 80's Detroit vs GM's poletown where an entire culture was uprooted and displaced. But recently poletown lost a decision where they displaced a black community by cutting off their water and services in the 40's. It seems that what goes around ..................... For the decision in the 80's Michigan passed a law that does not allow private entities to take for profit people's private property.

Thanks for your words of support. speaking of kelo- ...yesterday - pfizer announced that they are leaving New London-

I also agree that despite the fact that the fight against ED abuse is seen as a conservative issue- it's simply an issue of right and wrong- and hopefully this film will help to change the discourse on the subject.
