Update #12: The album is almost finished!

Posted on February 8

Hey guys!! Just wanted to say hello and give you an update on all that has been happening with the album. We're almost to the mixing stage! It's almost a month to the day since we started the album and we've had a great time. We finished up the main tracks and overdubs at Cedar Creek Studios. It is a beautiful studio in the middle of Austin but on land that creates the illusion that you're out in the country. Many of my favorite bands have recorded there: Uncle Tupelo, The Dixie Chicks, Ben Kweller, and many more. I loved it so much!! Now we're out at our producer's studio finishing up overdubs. Going in today! I love creating a great album. Just a few more days of work and then we'll enter the mixing stage!! Just want to say thanks again for the wonderful support! There's NO WAY this could have happened without you guys. It's been an interesting few months but your support has made all the difference. Thank you so much!!

XOXO

RJ

Update #9: Merry Christmas, Santa Baby

Posted on December 25

Merry Christmas! We are with family today and found Pop's 30 year old ukelele (with the strings never changed..Ruby Jane cringed..lol). Last year this time, she sat on his front porch and sang a song he wrote. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKzGRIIBPOI

Today, on Christmas, she grabbed Pop's ukelele and sat by the tree. Here's Santa Baby, just for fun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j85QQSMTgeQ

It makes me think, hey, she might need to throw in a uke on the new record! What do you think? We should probably change the strings though. lol.

Love yall.

JoBelle

Update #8: amazing view

Posted on December 23

From here, it's an amazing view. One carjacker, thousands of folks who care. This is the world we are a part of, this is the world I am seeing. This is the caring, hopeful world I want others to see through me. And through the varied emotions and layers of processing after the gunpointed carjacking, we are still focused on the Kickstarter project, maybe more than before. With your help, we are getting there. Ruby Jane is still out of some key instruments and equipment to record but we know it will come together in time. And even in the last 2 weeks, she has still been rehearsing the new songs and arrangements with the band for recording with sharp focus. I am proud of that girl. Unstoppable. In the photo below, you'll see a special night. The band WhoDo turned a gig into a last minute benefit and Austin turned out in support. The love in that room was warmer than a campfire! Ruby Jane performed on a backup fiddle until we find hers out there. Whatever fiddle is in her hands, beautiful music is made, a loving stage is set. The view from my seat, still amazing.

Amazing! And completely expected for me; ya'll are the real deal, and I am just glad to be in your world, even if on the fringes. Keep on keepin' on, and we will always be there for ya'll, for the love that ya'll give always comes back in spades.

Update #7: So grateful

Posted on December 14

Hey guys just want to take a minute to say how utterly grateful I am for the love and support of family, friends, and fans at this time. As you probably know, my mom and I were carjacked at gunpoint on Thursday in Houston after a solo show. We lost all my equipment, instruments, phones, wallets, suitcase, everything. Since then we've been back in Austin trying to recover stolen gear, etc. I just want to say it has been unbelievable how amazingly thoughtful and helpful everyone has been. You guys are the sweetest ever. People have been giving me gear to use, helping us have a place to stay (our keys were stolen with the car and we're trying to get the locks changed), and donating so sweetly to kickstarter. We appreciate it so much. We're 3/4 of the way there!! WOO HOO!!! And it's all because of you guys. So thank you. So much. I know we can make this deadline and any extra donations will go to helping recover stolen equipment, instruments, etc. Thank you guys so much. Ya'll are the best. I love ya'll from the bottom of my heart. I'm so grateful to have people like you in my life.

Much love always,

RJ

RUBY JANE

Lollapalooza preview by WIlliam A. Rice, http://www.eightonesevenphotography.com/blog/...

Ruby Jane
As someone not even old enough to legally buy a pack of smokes, this young country protege creates her own smoke with a bow and a fiddle. Her sound is the familiar American bluegrass, but her lyrics present a deeper knowledgeable mind. An old soul in a young girls body, this rising star has already played with some of the greatest country musicians around. I mean come on, this girl has already played the Grand Ole Opry. As I type this, I’m sitting at home chewing on a piece of straw, drinking lemonade and complaining that “it’s hottah then a dickins,” and she made me this way, if only temporarily.
Her words are wise and meaningful. Her voice is entrancing. Her guitar and fiddle playing is clean and precise, but her voice… her voice. It’s melodic, engaging, and developed in her own way. Not in a freakish Jackie Evancho sort of way because it actually fits. The performance will be a roller coaster ride from electric to acoustic, from hushed whispers to thunderous roars, and it’s all designed to take the audience for a ride. She’ll grab you, make you “Stick Around” and make you “Feel Like Home” – all while you wish you brought that glass of lemonade because she will most definitely leave you “hottah than a dickens”. And holy crap, just try to keep up with her once she starts playing Minor Swing.

“She is a great picker, fiddler, songwriter, and singer with an amazing career in front of her. I love her!” — Willie Nelson

“A vivacious, effervescent and ferociously talented instrumentalist, writer and vocalist…”— John Davis, Austin Music Score

“I’m convinced Ruby Jane was sent to earth by God to save ... music…There are no words to express Ruby Jane’s talent level, because it is nothing like I have ever seen before, in a musician of any age. And I’m not just talking about her fiddle playing, I’m talking about all of it: songwriting, showmanship, singing, even her guitar playing. And overriding all of this effusive talent is a passion for the music second to none. ” — SavingCountryMusic.com

“She can melt a rock.” — Marty Stuart

“Ruby Jane is the next big news in ... music.” — Bob Schieffer, CBS Evening News

RUBY JANE

From Austin, TX, 16-year-old Ruby Jane is the real deal. Born in Dallas and raised in Mississippi, she is a fiddler, singer/songwriter, and bandleader of The Ruby Jane Show, showcasing a mix of rock, jazz, bluegrass, and blues.. She exhibited a strong connection to music early, starting violin lessons at age 2, and began playing bluegrass when she was 8. Ruby played with Marty Stuart, Rhonda Vincent, Jesse McReynolds, and many others, and became the youngest fiddler in history to play the Grand Ole Opry at age 10. The CBS Evening News ran a feature on Ruby when she was 12, and she played with Big & Rich in front of 60,000 people on ABC’s CMA Music Festival Special.

Ruby Jane moved to Austin in 2007, playing with Texas greats like Johnny Gimble, Dale Watson, Freddy Powers, and Will Sexton. Ray Benson of Asleep At The Wheel discovered Ruby while looking for a young fiddle player for his play “A Ride With Bob.” Ruby joined the cast, and through Ray met her childhood hero Willie Nelson during the making of Willie and the Wheel. This led to Ruby touring nationally with both Asleep At The Wheel and Willie Nelson.

Ruby Jane’s primary focus now is her own band, “The Ruby Jane Show.” 2010 was busy for Ruby. She toured France in August, and in September at 2010′s ACL Fest, she sat in with Blues Traveler, and then drew over 2,000 people for her own performance, being named “MVP of ACL Fest” by the Austin Chronicle. Ruby Jane continues to write songs, improve in technique, and mature in style. She can be found making music in and around Austin, whether sitting in with bands and performers from across the musical spectrum, or leading The Ruby Jane Show. She is warming hearts, embracing audiences, and making everyone wonder just where she is bound.
