Update #12: Never Say Done
Update #11: Recording is officially done!
Tonight, Friday, April 23 at 11pm, we finished recording the album! I sang vocals today on my two most recent compositions for the album, and they came out great, if I do say so myself. The guys are busy editing this weekend and mixing all week to get the songs ready for the sampler, and I am so happy to be done recording! I look forward to sharing the first batch of songs soon!
Update #10: Fully funded!
Update #9: We did it!
Update #8: The final countdown...
Just 24 hours left for my fundraiser, and recording is almost over! I've almost raised the $5000 so I think I'll make it--remind anyone you know who might want to contribute that the deadline is coming at midnight this Thursday! Yesterday we adding more backing vocals (including a whistling solo), and stayed up til 3am last night recording Wurlitzer, Hammond Organ, and a honky-tonk Minipiano! It was amazing and so much fun. The last session is set for Thursday night, and we're hoping to finish the vocals even if it takes all night! I can't wait until the record is done and I can share it with all of you! Stay tuned for more exclusives for supporters all along the way!
Update #7: Three days left to record (and contribute!)
Just a reminder that there are only 3 days left to get the word out about this project--my deadline for contributions is this Thursday, April 8! The album is going great but will definitely cost more than $5,000 to make, so please remind anyone you've told about it that the time to help is almost up, and every little bit helps. Thanks again for believing in me!
We spent Sunday recording piano tracks at the engineer Jon's apartment, and they came out great! The guys shut me into a tiny little alcove with a great-sounding upright and I kept my sunglasses on to channel Ray Charles (...and because I always do). We came back to the East Village studio late night to record vocals (still with sunglasses of course), and today we welcomed my friend Rachel Reef-Simpson from Hava Nashira, who came down from Boston to lay down some beautiful backing vocals on several songs. We had a great time with her this afternoon and we're finishing up the day with Bryan Dunn on guitar, who plays with me in Shwa's band. Tomorrow is the last full day...and a long one, going from noon to late at night. Enjoy these pictures of all our special guests and the makeshift piano studio!
Update #6: Sunny outside, but rockin' in here!
We're moving along right on schedule! Today Louis came back to play some acoustic guitar, and now David from SAJ on the Upper West Side is here rockin' the upright double bass. Having a great time and things are sounding amazing! Tomorrow I head to Crown Heights in Brooklyn to record piano tracks on a beautiful upright piano. With just a week left until the fundraising deadline, please keep getting the word out about this project to any Jewish music supporters you know! Here are a few more exclusive pictures for you to show my continued appreciation. Have a great weekend!
Update #5: Live from the studio!
Things are going great in the studio! Wednesday we recorded piano and vocal "scratch" tracks in a midtown studio (as a guide for the other musicians to play to) before moving downtown (to my neighborhood) Thursday to record drums with Glen, who is also the producer of the record. This morning (bright and early at noon) Sharon from Temple Rodef Shalom in VA came in to play flute, and right now Louis, the songleader from Congregation Rodeph Sholom in NYC is playing bass on the instrument the Strokes used for their 3rd album! Enjoy these exclusive pictures before anyone else as another thank-you for your support!
