About this project

I have some exciting news! As you may already know, over the past several years I have been writing Jewish songs for my Religious School, temple day camp, and Hava Nashira (the Jewish music conference), and I am now ready to make an album of Jewish music! The energy and style of the music is informed by my many years as a performer and educator—it’s an exciting, original Jewish experience for a new generation! I’ve already recorded the first song, “B’chol Le’vav’cha,” which is featured in the video above. But to make the rest of the album, I need your help!

Creating an album is an expensive endeavor, from recording and producing the actual CD to marketing it through a website and advertising, and so I am looking for supporters who might be interested in being a part of this project. Traditional record labels loan artists money to record, which is then paid back through album sales and touring. There is a new model which allows fans and supporters to act as the “record label” by essentially purchasing the album in advance, and this website helps make that happen.

By donating any amount through the website, you will receive a download of the first single, and there are many other rewards (signed CDs, T-shirts, credit in the CD liner notes, live concerts) for higher donations. If I am able to raise money beyond my goal, I will donate 15% of that amount to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, an organization that is close to my heart. I have a detailed budget and business plan available for anyone who is interested in investing more deeply in this project, and you are welcome to write a check instead of using the website if you prefer. I've set my goal at $5,000, but I will actually need more than that to make the album, so every little bit helps, even if I make the goal.

I am very passionate about using music to build community. Please help me get the word out in your community about this exciting opportunity to work together and create something amazing!

B’shalom,

Jay Rapoport
