Update #14: Hands in the Air analysis
This exclusive content goes through the development of a new song called "Hands In The Air," written by Drew and Mike. The audio starts with the original demo Drew created, followed by an exercise in Dub Reggae by the band, followed by a first run in our basement studio, followed by a new development in the bridge that has been developed on stage. Since we ran out of time in the studio, this song is getting its preproduction treatment on the road
Update #12: Mike talks about Rush the Tide
Crystal seas, clear as the sky
As I walk through Trenchtown
Holding up my peace sign
You’ll never make it to the top
So you better just enjoy the climb
Beautiful women dressed in white
No you can’t move the sea
And you can’t rush the tide
But you can do what you like, yeah
Hold it inside
Rainy day on the shores of Antigua
looking for a smooth ride
when you’re in Barbados, yeah,
Rhythmic waves, each with a smile
As I walk the shore line
Holding up my good side
You gotta be there like a drop
In the water and release the vibes
Caliente brisa de isla del mar
No you can’t shoot the moon
And you can’t hold a star
But you can be who you are, yeah
Hold it inside
Rainy day on the shores of Antigua
looking for a smooth ride
when you’re in Barbados, yeah,
Update #11: Rush the Tide (acoustic)

Update #8: Working lyrics for "Swords" (working title)
These are preliminary lyrics and ideas for the new song "Swords"
To walk on water not meant for mortal men
Sons and daughters are drowning in our sins
The world’s assaulters find treasure buried in Earth
Skin and salt her, but who knows what it’s worth?
We can’t wait for the storm to be gone
We can’t cower while their swords are drawn
Though love might be the only solid ground
We press on…
It’s too late, can’t stop now
The candle flame of hope
It fades with sweat upon my brow ‘cuz
I will fight, my soul tossed and twirled
Spun in all directions to find
Peace in this world
Like sheep to slaughter, we accept our fate
Teeter-totter, we balance on the gate
Run then falter, pull yourself up again
Cold, then hotter, as Earth spins in steady rhythms
We can’t wait for all the air to clear
We can’t cower in the shadow of fear
Love remains after all else is gone
We press on…
I won’t run away
I won’t let it pull me down (REPEAT)
Where we are is where the ones we love
Look for help, to find themselves
Isn’t that enough?
I will fight, my heart beating and bold
To summon all the strength I can
Like the good kings of old

After a brief time together in an all-acoustic college bar band, Alex Steele (keyboard, vocals) Drew Preiner (guitar, vocals) and Michael Daum (guitar) began working on a new project with a new vision and direction. The style eventually settled into a funk rock reggae sound, with emphasis on solid songwriting and explosive performances. In September 2006, the trio released a demo called “Contradicting Gravity.” The short disc garnered some local attention in the Twin Cities, and word started buzzing around colleges and clubs. After a few member changes and additions, the band grew to a 6 piece and released their first full-length album, “The Rhythm/The Elements” in September 2007 to a sold out crowd at the historic Varsity Theater in Minneapolis, MN.
Soon, small crowds swelled to hundreds and gig invitations began coming in from all over the Midwest. The band condensed to a five piece, with Scott Muellenberg (bass) and Jeff Peterson (drums). In 2008, they began a demanding tour schedule.
In 2009 Roster McCabe played 166 shows in 17 different states, played Summerfest, the 10,000 Lakes Music Festival, SXSW, Harvest Fest, Bella Madre and were featured in Billboard Magazine as one of the "top five up-and-coming jam bands" in the country.
