About this project

Jay Ferguson grew up his whole life playing April Fools jokes on his father. Every year, he concocted some new way to get at his dad. Now that he's 20, Jay sets up his yearly prank before he heads back to college. But things don't go quite as planned. The shock is too much for his dear old dad and ends up sending him to an early grave.

Now Jay must face his family at the funeral. His mother is a mess, his older sister is infuriated, and while everyone is saying it wasn't his fault Jay knows in his heart that he is solely to blame. But worst of all, Jay is the one who has to give the eulogy.

  • "Last Laugh" is one of four 2011 Senior Film Thesis projects for the film option students at California State University Northridge. Each movie is a short, 15 minute film that is produced, shot, and edited by senior-year undergraduates to showcase everything they've learned while being a film major.

  • While the CSUN Cinema & Television Arts department does pitch in some money, students must finance the rest of their project. And making movies isn't cheap! Besides each student pitching in their own out-of-pocket share, they have to fund raise everything else.

  • Not only will we definitely get our $3000 goal, but we'd also receive everything above that! Any additional funding would help towards our marketing and promotional costs, production pick ups, or any post-production expenses.

  • Last Laugh is set to premiere at the 2012 CTVA Senior Film Showcase, which will be in May 2012 (exact date TBA).

  • YES! Once you donate, you absolutely can increase your pledge amount. To do so, sign in to Kickstarter. Go to our campaign page and click the blue “Manage Your Donation” button. There, you can enter a new amount. Thanks for being so generous!

  • Every person who's donated money immediately gets their full amount refunded back to them. That means there's no risk in pledging!

But that also means it's all-or-nothing for us. If we don't reach our goal, we get nothing. $0.00 That means we'll be severely underfunded and we may not be able to finish this project. We want to avoid this at all costs!

  • The $3,000 (minus the percentage that Kickstarter and Amazon take) will go towards our film equipment, locations, props, processing, permits, and all the other necessary costs of making this movie a reality.

Last updated: Monday Nov 21, 6:34pm EST
  • Sorry, but Kickstarter only accepts credit cards through Amazon payments.

Likewise, any money we receive outside of Kickstarter cannot be counted towards our Kickstarter goal.
