If you really want to get a taste of Roosevelt Dime, you’re best off going to one of their underground "blind pig" parties in NYC. During the days of Prohibition, there were as many as 100,000 blind pigs in NYC alone, which were a lower-class alternative to the more ritzy "speakeasy." In a time when incomes are stretched and pennies are pinched, folks are gravitating towards this rebirth of a bygone tradition. With a deep dedication to all things American music , Roosevelt Dime has crafted a unique sound that's equally at home in an old time reel as a second line slow drag, while still incorporating more modern alt-country and indie-rock offerings as well. The unconventional lineup of banjo (Andrew Green), electric bass (Eben Pariser), and drums (Tony Montalbano) walks the line between modern and traditional, Hi-Fi and Lo-Fi, like few bands can. Featuring a dynamic mix of rock, soul, country, and blues, along with some Dixieland jug circus music thrown in for good measure, they've got a mixed-bag sound often compared to The Band and Ollabelle, but clearly have a voice all their own singing out from fertile streets of Brooklyn, NY. Their debut album, Crooked Roots, displays their diverse songwriting and spirited vocal harmonies supported by a horn section, pedal steel, and bagpipes.
