About This Project:

Knitting For Victory is a unique look at the extraordinary response to war seen between 1916 and 1945. It's the story of The Production Corps, the knitters, and the soldiers all fighting for victory, in their own way. 

However, this book will be different. You see, this is not only a history essay but it's a knitting pattern book. I have researched and updated 25 patterns distributed by the Red Cross and issued by the military for the knitters on the home front to make for our troops, for our allied forces, and for refugees across Europe. From beginner to advanced, all levels of knitters will find great accomplishment and joy in these patterns.

Written by essayist and knitwear designer Rohn Strong, Knitting For Victory, will be a beautiful softcover knitting book with more than 12 articles on WWI and WWII knitting as well as 25 updated patterns, for men, women, and children, and the home all in colors classic to that time period. (Yes, I do mean Olive Drab and Khaki!)

Why I Want to Make This Book:

To me history is what makes us who we are. I grew up knowing I had a responsibility to tell the stories of the past. My Great Great Grandad fought in World War One and my Great Great Grandma fought on the home front knitting away. Her daughter, my Great Grandmother, knitted during the second World War as well. This part of history is close to my heart and I know close to many others' as well. Revealing a part of history rarely talked about truly drove me to write this book.

As a knitter, I know how valuable tradition and history is to all of us. I have lots of experience in Public Relations and Marketing and have a great team helping me along. When you back this project, I will make it flourish in a way that will make you and my grandmothers proud to be a part of it.

What I Have:

I have the designs: I have all the patterns updated and designed. I currently am in the process of getting the patterns tested and then they will be off to the photographer!I have the essays: The essays have been written with the perfect balance of fact, heart, and hope. Currently they are being edited and reviewed to make sure perfection is met!

What I Need From You:

Our initial goal is to raise the funds to:

·           Cover the costs of the first print run of 1000 books (including shipping it out to all of you)

·           Pay the amazing sample/test knitters

This book is about more than knitting. It is about the stories of the past deserving a voice and platform, it is about connecting with our ancestors and the heroes who silently fought at home.

Please back this project and help bring more stories of love, perseverance, strength and sacrifice into the world once again (and knit some pretty cool designs!)
