About this project
Oakland County needs a place for people, with the flexibility to work anywhere, to call home.
That's why we're launching ShareSpace: just over 2,200 sq. ft. of creative space for independents to work, host events, workshops, hack-a-thons and educational programs -- a venue where different industries and ideas overlap to become larger than they were. A place that is open to those that like to collaborate, learn and pursue ideas.
ShareSpace will be located in downtown Rochester: a thriving suburb of Detroit located in Oakland County. Home to countless educational and business resources, we are a community of what lies next on Michigan's horizon.
Coworking is the creative collaboration that comes from people actually talking and working together -- people that may not be from the same field, let alone company. Coworking consists of remote employees, freelancers, students, academics, creatives and anyone else with a passion for something. With the ability to work anywhere they choose, these people are often found in home offices, coffee shops, classrooms or libraries... environments not condusive to spontaneous creativity, let alone human interaction.
Coworkers are bright, successful and inspiring people to have as company. They're doing stuff: building businesses, creating software, writing books and researching ideas. They're sharing and discussing each other's projects, providing input from an entirely different prospective. This is productive alchemy.
As a member-funded space, we're able to provide a very flexible and cost-effective solution that provides all the resources of a typical office: desks, conference rooms, printer/scanner/fax, mailing address and the best WiFi in the area... even coffee. Once more, these resources are all included in your membership -- no extras!
Every member has a sense of ownership of the workspace. This builds an immense sense of trust and collaboration that allows the community to thrive. There are different memberships based on how often you'll want to use the space from once a month to all the time:
Drop-In $15 -- Just need a break from the same four walls or a dose of inspiration? Stop by for a day-pass and load-up on awesomeness.
Basic $25 -- If plan on visiting ShareSpace more than once a month or are interested in attending our events, this is for you: two day visits a month plus a discounted rate on Drop-In’s of $10/each.
Part Time $75 -- If you’re visiting up to 3 times per week, go Part-Time. All the benefits of Basic membership with a savings on your montly use. You’ll become part of the core community while retaining the flexibility to work elsewhere too.
Full Time $150 -- This is for those interested in making ShareSpace their home base. Pick-up unlimited visits and an awesome mailbox to receive mail under your business name and our address -- instant official status!
Resident $300 -- Residents setup shop at ShareSpace, literally. You get one of a limited number of permanent desks; yours and yours alone. Bring in your monitors, computers and wicked desk accessories -- anything goes as long as it’s not permanent. Completely furnished with mailbox, chair and lockable file cabinet.
Every member has access to ShareSpace 24/7 through their own RFID-key; you’re free to come and go as you please. This also means that this is YOUR space; treat it as if you would your own home. Members are empowered to address issues and make decisions; the community remains sustainable by members working together and remaining responsible to themselves and others.

After grabbing an ice cream cone or something to drink, I'll take you on a walking-tour of downtown Rochester and show you the best spots to visit and things to do -- plus you still score all the stuff above!

Go Part-Time and help us get desks! We'd love to learn more about our members, so we want to take you out to eat! Not only will you get a prepaid 2-month Part-Time Membership and 2 guest Drop-In Passes, but we can chat over lunch or dinner (our treat) in downtown Rochester to learn how we can make the ShareSpace community even more awesome -- and you still get all the above!

I'm a new Father, Husband, best-friend, community advocate, finance professional and weekend-warrior.
My involvement in the community began with starting The Social Philanthropists Foundation (SPF). Founded in 2008, The SPF focuses on grass-root, creative efforts to strengthen communities and the nonprofits that serve them.
This effort has ultimately led to the creation of Karmagora: an online community that networks the skills and talents of real-world communities, making them stronger and more self-sufficient. Karmagora has grown to be the most effective way for neighbors, businesses and nonprofits to find, benefit and prosper from countless opportunities that would otherwise go wasted.
These have now led to Oakland County's first co-working location called ShareSpace and Michigan's only open-source collection of resources for new and growing businesses called MIBusinessWiki -- it's amazing where creativity and collaboration will lead you.
