Born in Illinois. Grew up in Michigan. Learned to write in Florida. Now I live in San Francisco.
I also blog at Snarkmarket (link below) with my pals Tim and Matt.
Robin, I just wanted to tell you how amazing & inspiring your entire Kickstarter experience is. I just launched my own book here last week (http://kck.st/c533wf) and I'm looking to your fantastic project to learn. You are an inspiration, thank you! <3 Erin
I cannot believe that we fell 30 people short of having it made of PURE GOLD.
Magnificent project, Robin. I loved Mr. Penumbra, and I think this methodology (this "army of angels") may be just what we need. Perhaps this is the future of publishing.
getting really excited about this!
congrats on reaching and exceeding your goal - much deserved
hum. twitter list.
I can't believe I missed out on this! Looks really awesome. Wish I had found it sooner. Congrats on succeeding (and greatly exceeding!!) your goal! Hopefully you'll come out with another book... and if you do I'll be sure Not to miss out again.
this is simple test answer don't read and no claim

@Ryan: The PDF drops this Friday—I'll send out an update. And/or you can watch robinsloan.com.
Got my books today, right smack in the middle of exam period; thankfully I have already written my linear algebra exam, so i needn't worry about your book distracting me from my most important exam. That being said once I received the package, ran up to my room and carefully cut open the package, cracked open one of the copies and didn't stop reading till it was done.
Well now its done, I'm going to have to reread it again and again and again.....
Right back to studying for my psych exam tomorrow.
Now that I think of it I'll have to get a friend to lock them up for me, your book is a better (worse?) distraction than the great intertubes (yes i read xkcd).
Just got my book and all I can say is WOW! The "enclosure" it came in and the extra goodies were just icing on the already quite delicious cake. It really was like getting a package from another world. Well done sir, and thanks a lot. One question: when will the digital copies become available? The physical book looks so sleek and pristine I'm almost afraid to mess it up by reading it.
@matt: Email me --> robinsloan at robinsloan dot com
@Henri: That. is. so. cool!
hum. twitter list.
Hi everybody.
Waiting for my copies, I've made a tweeter list of 'Robin writes a book' backers.
Let me know if you don't see yourself in it.

Any chance I can still get the Physical Pack, Robin?
Woo! Thanks, guys. So glad you enjoyed it.
Got it today.
Wow.
Wow.
Wow.
Worth every penny.
Got my copies yesterday afternoon! Devoured it immediately upon getting home. Bravo, sir.
My books arrived in the mail today!
Any news on the International pack? Are they getting posted same time as the local version?
Is it too late to up my contribution? I am thinking about holiday presents and all of a sudden a few extra copies sounds like just what I need...
@Will: Ha! Great teaser. I will definitely write something up along those lines. Feel free to message or email me (robinsloan at robinsloan dot com) if you have specific ideas/questions, too.
Robin - Once you have a moment to breathe after the book is produced, I would love to learn more about what things worked and didn't work in terms of using KickStarter. I have a project in mind that involves transport, machinery and race (and that's all I will reveal for now).
Thanks!
Just FYI, I discovered why I couldn't properly sign up - there's an Amazon Payments glitch for non-US Amazon Turk account holders (I am one, even though I never use it) which means that they are asked for a US address even though one is not needed. Apparently Amazon know, and are "working on it".
getting really excited about this!
congrats on reaching and exceeding your goal - much deserved.
@Will: Nope, I have your address! You filled out the info request form, and I see it here in my spreadsheet.
Robin - I'm not sure I got you my address and I have to say, I have not been able to figure out how to get it to you. Do you have an email I can send it to or a direct account?
Thanks!
"Gosh, what's with all these @disposableninja.com addresses? Is that like some new stealth startup?"
And to think, for just an extra $32 (plus 32 disposable Ninja email addresses) I could have upgraded all of us to Pure Gold!
I'm so excited ! I can't wait to get my package and lose myself in the story! Do we have an ETA? Not that I'm being pushy. I know the book has to actually be *made* and all....just wanting an idea.
Hurrah!
Chickpeas for everyone!
This has been an amazing process, Kudos to you Robin. Looking forward to this continuing journey.
Loving your work.
Congrats on crossing the finish line Robin! I'm really looking forward to seeing you get into the design and printing phase. Thank you so much for letting us hold onto your coat tails for a bit and put a foot into the future. I can't wait to read it!
Hurrah! Project funding successful. Thank you to everyone -- I just can't say it enough.
@Micah: That's awesome -- I knew they were doing a story but didn't know when it was going to run. I'll keep an eye out.
@CommunistPrime, @Kathy, @Trevor, & everyone: I can't wait for you to read it :-)
Congratulations on making your goal! I'm looking forward to the book.
Unanticipated side effect of backing this project. Just did a short interview with the Chron... apparently they are doing a story on Kickstarter and you on Nov 10.
Robin.....I'm highly anticipating your new book on my doorstep! So proud to be part of this journey, what a ride! Congrats!
Robin,
Thanks for giving all of us an opportunity to be a part of this. Truly courageous and inspiring. It's been a lot of fun, and I can't wait to read the novel!
All the best.
Sounds like it's going to be an interesting book, I look forward in getting a copy. Good luck!
Hey can someone send me an invite to connect so I can post a project as well, thanks I look forward in hearing from you.
@Louise: Oh man, awesome! I still wear my "Trouble in Myanmar" shirt all the time.
I thought your name looked familiar! I think you purchased a shirt or two from us at The Shirt Project way back in the day. Glad we meet again, and looking forward to getting a copy of the book! The internets is a wonderful place.
ooh, I'm a backer now! Robin, if you want some black and white digital woodcutty artwork for the book, I could do something quick. Or, if you'd prefer we could work together on a matches the book bookplate illustration to send out to your backers...
Argh. I just tried to pay via Amazon Checkout, but it's demanding a US address and I don't have one, given I'm in the UK. Totally perplexed about how to pay. Would you take PayPal instead?
Intriguing idea... congrats on raising well over your goal! Can't wait to read the book!
@4o66: I agree, Saul's idea is totally great. I hadn't thought of including the "your book was here" metadata, too; that way people could take pictures & reassemble the whole thing online! (Too ambitious?)
PURE GOLD it is. The final package is going to be really artful and (I hope?) fun to receive and read.
Robin: based on some quick math, you have 456 backers, some getting more than one copy... 774 to be exact. Does that mean we will get the ultra rare "PURE GOLD" edition?
I love the updates, love the The Writer & The Witch, and couldn't stop read 24 hour Bookstore once I started. Thanks! Can't wait for the book!
P.S. Saul's idea about the mural would be awesome, especially if each book came with a small poster and a "your book was here --->". Please???
Re: uniquification of the package: why not unbox the books, stack them, spine to the wall into a huge wall, then hire a graffiti artist to spray a huge mural of your heroine and her AI onto the exposed paper edge. Then everyone gets a few pixels of the portrait.
@Amy: That's a great idea. I'll do it.
I'm interested in hearing more about how this project is affecting your life. Would you consider an update addressing that aspect? Things like... how many hours per day do you spend writing? Do you keep a schedule or just write all the time? Are you maintaining your social life or has the looming deadline preempted it? Did you feel a shift in the quality of your writing once you left Current and got to write full-time?
Nope! Remember, when people are contributing, they're basically just pre-ordering a book, so it's all paid for. And if it was 10,000, that would raise weird questions like, uh, where am I going to put them—but under 1,000 is doable. ;-)
