This is a travel show where the people are the destination because they are the defining feature of a country and their culture.
Our goal is to create a travel show called, “The ReCultured,” which explores a country through it’s people and their lives. It's about forming relationships with a culture in order to educate or "reculture" ourselves and others. While we will meet many people of all different ages, our main focus is on the younger generations, as they are the ones who will impact the direction of a country.
To this end, our first project will take us to Cambodia. Our planned travel date is sometime early this fall.
Why a travel show?
We see that the best way to connect with the average American is through the internet and social media. By creating a show, we can share our learning experiences to inspire others to have authentic travel experiences, and to be educated about our global future.
From 1975-1979, the country of Cambodia was ruled by a communist regime called the Khmer Rouge. During this time period, roughly one-third of the population was murdered. As a result of this substantial population decrease, the birthrate decreased until a "baby boom" in the mid-1980s. This generation is now in their 20s and are making waves of influence in the current culture.
How can you help?
Like most independent films, funding is a necessary part of production. We have budgeted $16,000 for flights, lodging, food and transportation, as well as camera rentals and sound equipment. With your help, we can make this project a reality. Take a look at the different rewards, and give as much or as little as you can. Spread the word by sharing our Kickstarter page with your friends and family, finding us on Facebook, and following us on Twitter! Thanks for all your support!
About the Team:
Caroline Streiff is originally from Knoxville, Tenn. and is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University. She has a degree in Music Business, but the only music business she's been involved in since graduating has been managing the music on her iPod. Her love for travel started at a young age when she discovered how much she loved people, airports, driving, trains and everything about travel. After trips to Africa, Central America, and several trips to Europe (including an extended backpacking trip in the UK), Caroline has turned her sights on Asia.
Alex Pedigo was born in Atlanta, GA and has B.F.A. in Photography with a minor in Advertising Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design. He's a creative and a photographer who is a 1996 Mutton Bustin' Champion (that's a sheep rodeo), avid collector of world currencies, geography nerd, sporcle fanatic, and iPhone addict. This fall he will be interning for the world renowned National Geographic photographer Steve McCurry. He has a true love for people and hopes to convey this in his work. His creative goal is to connect, impact, and inspire others through his design and photography.
Robert Garvin is a recent Graduate from Savannah College of Art and Design. Having received his MFA degree in sound design, he has begun an internship with National Geographic and the Savannah Ocean exchange, doing audio for short films that focus on themes of ocean preservation. He is excited about the opportunity to meet people of another culture, and is eager to hear the language and the sounds of another country.
