Building on the foundation of our first feature VILLANELLE (see our teaser below)
We at Cut To The Chase Productions (see our media reel below) are taking it to another level with EREBUS.
Where VILLANELLE succeeded (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rickyalaprade/villanelle) we look to not only build on, but surpass that success.
Erebus is co-directed by Ricky Laprade (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3685415/) and Nicholas Jon Beaubien (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3620137/).
The cinematic vision will be coming to life by three camera operators including the multi-talented Director of Photography Christopher Garrison (http://www.christophergarrison.com/).
They will be teamed together with Production Manager David Langill (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3214012/), and Assistant Director Anthony Ambrosino (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2805568/)
The cast and crew have nearly doubled, as has the artistic vision, ambition and goals. The majority of photography is slated to once again take place on Block Island, as we have been welcomed back following our last feature VILLANELLE.
This time around however, we are going to delve further into the haunted history of Rhode Island and showcase more of the island's most prestigious landmarks and scenic beauty.
WHAT'S THE TITLE MEAN?
EREBUS is loosely based on the fated expedition of the Erebus and the Terror, two ships lost at sea.
Taking the time tested tales of ghost ships, Erebus crafts its own
mythology and gets to root of basic human terror.
In Greek mythology, Erebus was a place a of purgatory between earth and lower
depths of hell. It roughly translates as "the darkness where death dwells."
William Wordsworth touched upon this in his epic poem "Prospectus".
WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
This story is about visceral
terror. In Erebus, we don't just spit out ghost stories, we make you feel as if
you lived one.
Seeking to document the hotel for a new book, Samantha and Benny journey to investigate the hotel, learning of its terrifying history along the way by relaying three horrifying tales of its previous owners.
"Devil"- Robert Neville was the reclusive inheritor and owner of the Gorham House in the 1950s. Within the bowels of the hotel he harbors a grotesque secret, which unfortunately for him, just got out.
"Exposure"- Frank Martin is a forensic photographer who is commissioned by the historical society to take on the task of photographing all their properties, starting with the Gorham House. As he begins to photograph the premises, his pictures expose malevolent presence and he makes the morbid realization that he is not alone.
"Haxan"- When a team of paranormal investigators venture to the Gorham House to investigate the rumored paranormal phenomenon, their pursuit of the supernatural provides their most substantial evidence to date. However, their excitement quickly turns to horror when the contact they establish with the hotel's residents begins to prove fatal.
WHAT DO WE NEED TO MAKE EREBUS?
The magic word here is money. After shooting Villanelle (funded through Kickstarter!) we were lucky enough to be welcomed back to Block Island. This time around, we have access to some of the oldest and most amazing buildings on the island. The modest sum of $7500 barely scratches the surface of the true cost of film making, so we are hoping to surpass this goal. The reason we are aiming for this modest fee is to ensure that our backers get the rewards for the designated donations. As movie fans first, we are really excited about this round of rewards.EREBUS is easily our most ambitious project to date. The three main narratives which compose EREBUS are set in the 1950's, 1970's and present day.
The set design, art department and costuming alone costs a small fortune, and at Cut To The Chase Productions, quality and authenticity come first.
We want to be able to offer at least modest compensation to both cast and crew, as we feel people should be paid for their collective talents.
Please note that EVERY donation counts, and EVERY donation will be used 100% towards the production of this film. Your donations will in essence go to the following, but not limited to:
- Practical Effects
- Costuming
- Food for cast and crew
- Art Direction (set design and props, especially retro props to add an authenticity to the period pieces)
- Travel expenses and ferry fees
- Modest pay for cast and crew
- Music licensing
SO WAIT. WHY USE KICKSTARTER?
Simply because Kickstarter represents the exact way we want to make our films and quite frankly there isn't a better avenue for the independent artist.
We are not in the business of making hokey, typical independent cinema.
We strive to make real movies, and Kickstarter is - not only a great way to fund them - but also reach out to a like-minded community who can not only back, but get involved in real independent cinema.
OK. I'VE DONATED. WHEN DO I GET MY DONATION INCENTIVES?
Well. Incentives are only sent if we reach our goal. With your help we can and will.
Once the goal is reached, we make the movie, and then begin the editing process.
Incentives will start flying out the door between the start and end of production (A DVD is a good example.) We gotta finish the movie before we send it to you, and festival runs and distribution can slow things down
However, we will keep you posted and make you feel involved throughout the whole experience, and we will do our best to get you your incentives as soon as humanly possible.
**Please consider the target dates listed with rewards as worse case scenarios, in reality, you should receive them sooner.**
CAN WE EXCEED OUR TARGETED GOAL??
We totally can and we certainly want to.
Once we reach our goal, you can continue to donate. As previously stated, the modest sum we are shooting for is a bare minimum we need to complete the production. Extra funding makes for a smoother set, faster incentives and more updates.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THE MONEY ISN'T RAISED IN TIME?
Well, nothing. We don't get a dime, which means starting a new campaign, possibly losing locations, cast and crew. Also, all of our great rewards go to waste. It's bad business for everyone.SO, DO YOU HAVE A WEBSITE?
