First of all, thank you so much to everyone who helped me do this project. The good news is that we will now be able to broadcast the show without commercial interruption.
The bad news is that the Internet at the conventions center has been absent, non-existent, or at best, up and down.
This morning, as we got ready to go, I set the camera system up, got all the computers and audio ready, turned on the cameras, started broadcasting and sent out a tweet that we were LIVE. Some of you may have received the announcement.
Then the show opened and all Internet went away. The show has WiFi, which worked yesterday and this morning, until 65,000 people turned on their iPhones.
But I had a plan B - I had brought my own WiFi device just in case. I had tested it extensively before coming and although it was choppy, I was pleased with its performance.
Unfortunately my WiFi 3G/4G is with AT&T. The same people who just had 65,000 people turn on their iPhones.
Plan C - I contacted the convention center and had them come tell me the cost of getting a dedicated line into the room. At this point, all of you had supported me and I needed to get this out, even if it cost me a couple of hundred that I had to pay myself.
The convention center staffer showed up with the paper work. 1 line drop for 1 computer, $1,014. I kept a straight face, thanked him. Told him we will call him tomorrow if we decide we want to go through with this and then I threw the paper away.
Now we are on to Plan D
This involved me traveling the show floor with my mic, headphones, and iPad NOT connected to the Internet, shooting interviews and observations and coming back to my hotel room to load them up for your viewing pleasure. But my Hotel doesn't provide Internet. $17 a day.
And that is why at this moment you are getting this update at 11pm Eastern Time. It is my first time back on the Internet since early this morning and you all are the first group I wanted to let know that we are moving forward but slowly.
Tomorrow I have a Plan E which involves traveling to a different location to see if I can get a signal for my WiFi.
So look on www.thegamewhisperer.com tonight at some point and video should start showing up...semi-live
