New improvements to the Rhino Slider
Hey Backers! Some of you may have seen our recent video "Rhino drops from space". We learned a lot from the results of that test and wanted to share some of the changes we'll be implementing.
- First, the carbon fiber we used in the prototype was a roll wrap construction. We'll be using a braided carbon fiber that is much stronger and stiffer. Think of a Chinese finger trap type material wrapped around carbon fiber strands.
- Second, the plastic rollers shattered when the slider hit the ground. We realized we needed something less brittle so we'll probably machine those from Nylon in the production model.
- Lastly, we'll be adding built in "rosettes" where the slider legs meet the end plate of the slider. This will ensure that after you tighten up the legs they won't slip out of place even if you have 35 lbs. of weight on it.
- Lastly, but maybe most importantly, all of the machined aluminum parts will be Type III hard anodized. This just means it'll be really hard if not impossible to scratch the black finish of the slider and the teeth of the rosettes will hold up for a long time. It costs a bit more but we want your Rhino Slider to hold up for many years.
Kyle

Learn from my mistakes reward. I have gained a tremendous amount of technical and industry knowledge over the last year. Receive a PDF document and a ~30 min video with me sharing EVERYTHING I've learned. This includes a list of of my suppliers, how I designed the Rhino Slider in CAD, how I selected my materials, coatings, supply chain management, shipping, etc. I would have paid thousands of $$ for this last year if I knew what I was in for :)

Hi Ryan- probably not. The stiffness should remain the same.

As a carbon fibre customer, I'm curious as to whether or not there'll be any added weight load with the pieces? I'd wager not, as it sounds like it's just the pattern/weave and not that additional carbon fibre is being used really. Thanks for the updates!
