Get amazing cinematic video with a GoPro, iPhone, DSLR or RED. The most affordable, ultralight and versatile 48" slider ever.
The Rhino Slider will be available for pre-order here after the campaign ends.
Hey guys I'm Kyle, a filmmaker and inventor from Seattle, WA. I've spent the past couple years learning ways to get cinematic motion. Stabilizers (Rhino Steady) and jib cranes have their place but a camera slider is one of the best.
The problem is that most sliders in the market fit into one of 2 categories: inexpensive "friction based" tracks that stick easily, or heavy over-priced full roller bearing units.
My goal was to create the ultimate slider that used roller bearings, could be lightweight, and adapt to any environment or camera. Meet the Rhino Slider.
The Rhino Slider is an ultra-smooth 48" camera slider that uses 12 bearings inside of 6 self lubricating rollers. The system has so little friction you can use gravity to move your shots. All you have to do is mount your camera to the carriage, set up your shot and start filming. If you've never used a 48"+ slider before, you'll be in for a treat. It makes a huge difference having the extra foot or two.
Locking all-terrain legs are standard on the Rhino Slider and include micro adjustable rubber feet that can fold up for travel.
The entire systems disassembles for cleaning and storage with only 4 tool-less fasteners.
2 mounting screws are included, a standard 3/8" for mounting a ball or fluid head and a 1/4-20 if you're mouting your GoPro, iPhone, or your camera directly on the system.
If you want even more control of your motion, pledge extra for the Slider Pulley. It mounts on to one end of the Rhino Slider and includes the pulley, 10ft of 400lb coated wire, a wire guide so it can't slip off the pulley and a counterbalance bag that can be used as a handle. The whole system allows you to get even smoother vertical and horizontal footage and gives you the flexibility to film from a distance.
Optional suction cup mounts can be purchased separately through our online store.
The Rhino Slider ships with 48" stainless steel tubular rails and it's perfect for everyday filming. It can hold up to 7lbs of gear and weighs 5 lbs.
The Rhino Slider Carbon ships with ultra-light, super rigid carbon fiber rails. It weighs only 3lbs making the lightest slider in the world and can hold up to 10lbs of gear.
The Rhino Slider PRO is the industrial workhorse of the 3 versions. It can hold up to 35lbs of camera gear with its solid stainless steel rails. It weighs in at about 10lbs. Included is a center mounting plate if you're using a single tripod. The Rhino Slider PRO is the only version that comes with the center mount plate. This beast can support anything from a standard DSLR to a RED Digital Cinema camera.
What do we need the money for?
We're ready to start manufacturing the Rhino Slider but we need your help to do it. We'll use your generous pledges to place our first order with our machine shops. We also have some parts that will be injection molded (the rubber feet & the friction stops). Molds for those run about $5,000 a pop.
I have learned so much in the past year about product design (CAD), materials, sourcing & manufacturing. For those of you that followed the Rhino Steady campaign you know that we ran into a ton of issues. I want to teach you how to design products and avoid all of the mistakes we made and headaches we ran into. We have a reward available that will give you a ~30min video and PDF that will teach you everything I know. If you have an interest in getting into product design or think you ever will, get this. You won't regret it. You can pledge just for that or add $75 to your pledge if you're backing the Rhino Slider.
Once our campaign ends in the middle of September we'll have our final prototypes made and tested. When those pass our inspection we'll place our order with our machine shops and get the Rhino Slider into production. We're estimating that we'll be shipping in November and have everything out to you guys by Christmas time.
We started making camera gear a little over a year ago when we realized there was a need for aftermarket GoPro accessories. I bought my first DSLR around the same time and started learning how to film but soon found that I needed ways to stabilize my video. So, I began work on what became the Rhino Steady Stabilizer that was funded back in December on Kickstarter.
During the final development of the Rhino Steady came the idea for the Rhino Slider while looking at how dishwasher tracks rolled. We drew our idea up in CAD, 3D printed it and the first prototype actually worked perfectly. Since then, we've refined it to you what you see today.
Thank you so much for checking out our project, we appreciate your support!
The only model that comes with the center mount plate is the PRO version. This is because in order to attach the plate we have to drill and tap the rails for the plate to screw into. The base model and the carbon version are hollow so they can't be drilled and tapped.
We don't accept returns from Kickstarter projects so please make sure if you become a backeryou intent to use and keep the unit. Thanks for your understanding. We will however repair defective units at no cost to you if that is the case.
Customs fees vary depending on the country you are in so we would recommend checking with your customs office before you become a backer. The full amount of your pledge will be reflected on the invoice in your package, however it will be marked as a "gift" since your reward is a gift in return for your generous support.
