It's been a lot of work but we've really been making some great progress on getting the backer rewards together! We should be able to start shipping out some of the part sets this coming week!
We've also completed much of the assembly of the two full-printer rewards. The hardware is mostly built but we still have to tackle the electronics. If all continues to go smoothly we should be able to have them shipped by early February! We'll post a "family photo" of the two printer rewards as soon as they are completed. They're really looking sharp and we're looking forward to showing them off.
As the rewards become ready for shipping we will be sending out surveys to all the backers to collect shipping information, so if you're a backer, keep an eye out for yours.
This project has been an incredible amount of fun, but it's still great to be nearing the end. We're really looking forward to getting those rewards into our backers hands!
Hi everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful and festive holiday season! We just wanted to give a little update on how things are progressing with the project.
We are literally printing with every minute we have available and so far everything has gone fairly smoothly. After realizing exactly how incredibly long it will take us to get through printing the 8 parts sets, we made the decision to scale up from one printer to two. With two printers we will be able to deliver the rewards much sooner. Both are now up and running and were actually making a dent in the rewards now. We are currently assembling both of the complete printer rewards while simultaneously printing pieces for the parts sets. It a lot of work but we are enjoying every second of it.
Additionally, we have made some progress with the website portion of our project. We have a blog put together and have begun compiling some information within it. We don't consider it officially launched at this point but you're more than welcome to take a look at how its coming along. It can be seen at http://www.relativedesign.us/blog. We would love to hear some feedback.
As always, thanks so much for the opportunity to be involved with this project. It's been an awesome experience.
Our little desktop factory has been humming along all weekend. Everything seems to be going smoothly aside from a few software bugs we run into every now and then.
Although the printing process is slow, we are starting to actually make some progress on some of the backer rewards now. We have a LOT of printing ahead of us.
Over the past couple days we've really been getting to know the ins and outs of the printer software; making the adjustments necessary to get as good of a print quality as possible. In the image below you can see where we are currently at.
The piece shown is a shape you print to help calibrate the amount of material being extruded from the hot end as the device prints. It's very small, only 1cm in height total with each layer being only .3mm thick. As you can see, our print quality is looking pretty good at this point. It's been a lot of work, but the printer seems to now be running great.
The print material for the backer rewards is supposed to be arriving tomorrow and if all goes smoothly we will be able to start printing some of those rewards this week.
Thanks again to all the backers for giving us this incredible opportunity!
