Update #2: Update on script
Hey y'all,
Nathan here, the writer of "I'm Going Home." I've just finished the script. Well, another draft of the script anyway, and I'm feeling really good about the project.
The script has come a long old way since inception. The basic concept of the film was based on a story a friend of mine told me, in which he fell asleep on the NY subway 1 train and woke up at 3 in the morning in Harlem. His story of how he made it back had a modern-day Odyssey feel to it, the wayward man making his way home. (If the wayward man was sauced-up and sprinting through NYC.)
The first take on the script was basically a straight re-telling of his story, but subsequent re-writes had our main character (named Miles) falling asleep on the train and missing a major work deadline, falling asleep and missing important calls he needed to hear, etc. This was interesting, but it wasn't quite there. From there the breakthrough came-- the idea that Miles willingly fell asleep, that his sleep wasn't quite accidental but actually a way of him escaping responsibility. (Since then, as it always happens, we've found out that filming on the subway is exceedingly difficult for renting/insurance, so who knows on what or where Miles is going to fall asleep now. You'd think if they could use the subway in "Speed," then we could do it...alas.)
From there the script wrote itself...we introduced a female character, Olivia, who provides the impetus for Miles to make his way through the city, and the whole thing was written in a matter of minutes. Think of it as an iPhone-filmed update of Updike's "Rabbit, Run" except the main character isn't the most repellent man in literature. (Sorry, Updike fans.)
We hope this film will be the first in a series we hope to make on the idea of movement, transience, and human connection. If that sounds vague and pie-in-the-sky, well, it is, but we think we're on to something. Join us. Let's make a great movie.

But isn't that the joy of the iphone? It's the perfect guerilla filmmakers tool! You can shoot places you cant with a normal camera, no one is likely to know you're filming especially if you're clever and discreet. And if you co-ordinate it enough, you could shoot the parts on the subway very quickly. So take the risk & shoot on the subway! :)

Update #1: Update on why, story, meetup potential and video. Lets do this.
Guys,
It's been an exciting start with this project. We have had 17 backers at almost 3k of fund raising.
Couple of things we have been thinking about.
- My blog post on why we are doing this on my blog: http://tiny.cc/tq2nd
- During the shoot in NYC and New Orleans we were thinking of making this a meetup for filmmakers DSLR/etc - would you guys be interested?
- Also, we will be posting a longer summary of the film in the update of the section as well.
- Finally, for the filmmaking community we will be posting reviews, pros/cons, and our quest to try to improve the iPhone as a filmmaking tool. (we are trying to build an app to control exposure)
Thanks guys,
- Ben

Back in 08′ I made a short film (with Tung.ly) called Fifty People, One Question: New Orleans. It went viral and in early 2009, with the encouragement and help of a friend, I quit my job, left my old life. Now I produce films and craft experiences at our company, Deltree. We have done work for global brands on locations around the world. You should check out our website at http://thedeltree.com
