"Starboard Light" is a feature documentary that tells the story of a magically beautiful, multi-generational family summer home on Cape Cod and the 100 years of memories coming to an end with its sale. The Starboard Light was built in 1860 and has been occupied by the same family for the past 100 years. A lot has changed in 100 years. The values established by old money families is increasingly being replaced by the values of self-made men and the new money they bring with them. Cape Cod's population has increased sevenfold in the past hundred years. Land values have skyrocketed. The newcomers love and embrace Cape Cod culture yet many Old Cape families, blue collar and white, who established that culture, can't afford to stay. They also can't bear to leave.

The story of this Cape family is told by members of the family on either side of the sale debate as well as by neighbors who are contending with similar issues. The film also strives to capture the magical sense of place that is so strong and emblematic of Cape Cod through scenes of the two hundred year old property and the classic experiences associated with it and Cape Cod. It is the end of an era for this particular family home and the family that's occupied it, and quite possibly, even the multi-generational American family summer home.

With sufficient funding for quality post-production, Starboard Light has the opportunity to get into festivals and be distributed by networks like PBS.

With my background at National Geographic, I'm fortunate to know some of the best people with exactly the right sensibilities for this kind of project but of course they won't work for free!

I need your help to share this quintessential story of fading Americana that resonates so strongly with many of us who have lost or may yet lose our own treasured family home.
