Recession Art hosts VERSUS, an epic family- feud style battle between visual and performing artists on Nov 19th, 2010 at the Invisible Dog Art Center.
Recession Art (http://recessionartshows.com) is a Brooklyn-based arts organization that exists to bring emerging artists together with aspiring collectors and art-lovers to make showing, buying, and enjoying art more accessible for people who have been hit by the recession. From November 13-21, 2010 Recession Art will host its fourth semiannual group show, entitled What is the Where? at the Invisible Dog Art Center in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn (51 Bergen Street between Smith and Court).
In addition to panels discussions, film screenings, and fabulous parties, Recession Art is hosting its first Art Battle: VERSUS, an epic competition between visual and performing artists. On Friday November 19th, six visual artists will compete against six performing artists in a Family Feud style event to determine the ultimate victor.
VERSUS will be hosted by Bradford Scobie, comic character actor, writer of Gorgeous Morons (Dublin International Theater Festival) and Moisty the Snowman Saves Christmas (NYMF 2009, Dixon Place 2010), and frequent MC at Coney Island's Sideshows by the Seashore and the Hot Box at the Slipper Room. Bradford will host VERSUS as "Dale Winkendale" the fun-loving game show host. He is fully committed to getting his teeth bleached and his hair shellacked for the occasion.
VERSUS contestants include, on the Performing Artist side we have Donald Butchko, Peter Duchan, Jessica Jelliffe and Jamie Peterson. On the Visual Artist side we have Brent Birnbaum, Julie Floersch, Ian Trask, Sam Vernon and one mystery guest...
VERSUS will help further Recession Art's mission by encouraging artist bonding and networking across artistic disciplines, and bringing in more audiences to see and buy art. Proceeds from the event will support Recession Art's mission to break open the traditional gallery model and provide greater access to affordable art.
