Syracuse Quidditch started with four roommates with a dream: build a Harry Potter universe at Syracuse University.
Here at Syracuse University, alongside our sister college, the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF), students who seek a non-traditional escape from the college routine join together at the Women's Building Field each Sunday for Quidditch. With PVC Pipe make-shift hoops, household brooms and a thirst for the magical, more than 30 students show up each week for practice. Each year, the group grows. Attendance this year doubled from last year's, and yet we are still not a University-recognized team, so we get no financial assistance for equipment, traveling, uniforms, or anything else. This is where you come in.
We will be going to the World Cup held in New York City this November, and need your help to get there. With your help, we will be able to build Harry Potter replica goal hoops for practice, six in all, more than eight feet tall. Fundraising will help offset the expenses for the World Cup, and get us off the PVC, and give us the change to reach out to local high schools and teach them about Quidditch, literature and the importance of exercise.
J.K. Rowling envisioned a world where anything was possible. So do we. Help us get there.

The costs of hotel, travel, etc is approx. $1400. We are seeking to raise $500 to cut our expenses down by a third, but could use all the help we can get! No one should be denied the change to go because they can't afford it.
-
Lots of people, both from SU and SUNY-ESF. We are artists, engineers, climatologists, writers, economists, you name it. We are a very diverse group: more than half of our team is made up of women, and we represent a variety of cultures and backgrounds.

We would LOVE to build six wooden Harry Potter replica hoops for scrimmages, games and practice. Currently we use PVC pipe, which doesn't stand up so well after you've run into it a dozen or so times in the course of an hour. That can be expensive though. Which is why we need your help!
