About this project
Have you ever wanted to pack up and leave? Just escape from the four walls of your bedroom and go on a fantastic adventure? Well, for one lil’ girl it is all she thinks about… Created by underground comic writer Paul O'Connell and illustrator extraordinaire Lawrence Elwick, 'Lil' tells the story of a young dreamer who packs her little red suitcase and runs away to chase those dreams.
Cute as a button and cool as a cucumber, Lil is a very composed little girl who likes nothing better than to pack her suitcase and head off on an assortment of beautifully illustrated graphic adventures. From joining the circus to providing the missing link in the space race, from encountering magical bunny gods and tropical Tiki islands to turning film noir secret agent, Lil’s world is warm, witty and infused with a wry sense of humor.
Our purpose is to raise financing for the printing and artwork of the picture books 'Lil in Space' and 'Circus Lil', which will be glossy thick board books. All of the money raised will go directly towards this goal.
Why? Because board boards without dialogue are very good for brain development in children; it helps them with logic development.
Children's language and cognitive development begin very early and parent-child bookreading and other language-oriented interventions for children should begin much earlier than has generally been proposed. In fact, parents that begin reading to their children at a very early age have toddlers with greater language comprehension, larger, more expressive vocabularies and higher cognitive scores by the age of 2. Our goal is to get children actively involved in this process.
Paul is a writer and graphic artist whose work has appeared in a variety of international books, magazines and comic anthologies. As well as self-publishing collections of his own solo and collaborative work under the title “The Sound of Drowning”, Paul's work has also been exhibited in the UK, Australia, New York and Europe. More info at www.soundofdrowning.com.
Lawrence is a comic strip artist and illustrator living in Brighton. He reads Tintin whilst listening to jazz and avoiding haircuts. He also plays the harmonica. More of Lawrence’s work can be found on his blog at http://elwick.blogspot.com
Laura O’Callaghan-White, who provided the inspiration for the story and who still owns the small red suitcase she used to dream of packing and running away with, is currently a designer of skateboard graphics for Lush Longboards.
'Lil in Space' is drawn and ready. 'Circus Lil' will be finished in June if we can meet our goals. We hope to send Lil off on many voyages, but it all begins here…
It is FREE to sign up for Kickstarter and all payments go through Amazon. So if you aleady have an Amazon account, it takes less than 5 painless minutes. All shipping is included in the rewards.
Thank you for considering our little project with big dreams!
