The Legend

"The Rebellion" is a feature length thriller set in colonial Jamaica, inspired by the legend of the White Witch of Rose Hall.

Annie Palmer, the White Witch, was the infamous plantation owner of the equally mysterious Rose Hall Great House. She was known for her cruelty to her slaves and was feared because of her alleged use of Obeah and for murdering her three husbands.

Rose Hall Great House is located just a few miles from Montego Bay and is the most famous plantation house in Jamaica.  The Great House has gained the reputation of "one of the scariest places in the world", haunted by the villainous murderess, Annie Palmer, and her victims to this day.

Our Story

"The Rebellion" follows Millie, a young Jamaican girl, whose quest to find her mother leads her to the Rose Hall plantation. To save her family, she must overcome the terror within the walls of the Rose Hall plantation and end the villainous reign of the White Witch.  "The Rebellion" explores the legend of the White Witch as a critique of the period of British colonialism in Jamaica and also explores the events that led up to the Baptist War, one of the greatest slave revolts in the West Indies. 

You can expect a movie that not only tells an exciting story set in colonial Jamaica, but to also explores a part of Jamaican history that rarely gets told. Our plan is to have musicians such as Jimmy Cliff, Toots Hibbert and Boney M come on board for the soundtrack to give it a truly authentic Jamaican flavor. 

Sex, revenge, murder, romance, Obeah and a slave rebellion are all in the mix for this thriller.

Our Team

Producer, Raquel Roxanne is the managing member of White Witch Entertainment, an independent production company based in New York. She is a graduate of the University of the West Indies and holds a Masters degree in Film Production from Long Island University. She has written, directed and produced several short films, commercials and music videos and is currently attached to two other feature films in post-production.

Director, Rodrigo Retamoza III  has spent the last decade working on feature films, documentaries, commercials, and television series. He has also produced, written, and directed over a dozen short films, music videos, and a segment for The Montel Williams Show. He studied directing and screenwriting at The Prague Film school in the Czech Republic, where he had the opportunity to learn and collaborate with filmmakers from around the world. This international perspective combined with his early childhood love for American movies have developed a yearning to create original, character-rich films that entertain and engage audiences beyond the U.S.

What stage is the project?

The Rebellion is currently in pre-production.   After a successful Kickstarter campaign we plan to begin production in early 2013. 

How can you help?

Kickstarter is not for charity campaigns so by pledging any amount, you will be able to receive some very cool rewards that are EXCLUSIVE to those who pledge through our Kickstarter page.  Pledging allows you to get a copy of the product before anyone else or share in an EXCLUSIVE experience with the cast and crew for as modest as $5.

How will the funds be used?

The funds will specifically be used for:

1. Securing notable actors for lead roles

2. Securing musicians Jimmy Cliff, Toots Hibbert and Boney M for the soundtrack

3. Equipment rentals: cameras, lenses, lighting and audio gear

4. Transportation of equipment, actors and crew

5. Insurance and legal fees

6. Set design and costumes from the period

7. Other promotional/publicity costs

Whatever funds are left over will be used to complete the film along with the portion from investors. **Every penny (minus the fees for KickStarter’s involvement, the cut Amazon will take for processing payments and the cost for providing your rewards) will go directly to the movie budget - i.e. Your money goes directly to helping us to make this project a reality.

I'm not in the US. Can I still pledge to projects?
Yes. You can pledge from anywhere but funds are processed in US currency.

What happens if the money isn’t raised in time?
It's ALL or NOTHING!  If our goal isn’t met before the deadline, no money changes hands and we will have to resort to illegal means to get this money! We want to avoid this scenario at all costs, no matter how fun that may seem. 

**Your card will NOT be charged if the campaign is not successful, and it won't be charged until the end of a successful campaign.

What if we exceed the goal?
We would cry!  We just wouldn't be able to help it!  Exceeding our goal would allow us to make an even better movie.
