We're growing food made from local rain, local compost, & local sunshine. Your support helps us buy tools, a shed & rain barrels!
Wahoo! You helped us reach our stretch goal of $15,000.
Wondering if your donations are still needed? YES!
Every Dollar Builds the Farm
Your money will be put to good use strengthening our project and helping spark the urban farm movement throughout the United States. Thank you! Here We Grow!
Raleigh City Farm is an urban farm startup growing food made from local rain, local compost, and local sunshine. We believe that every city needs an urban farm to reduce waste, improve our health, and deepen the connection we urbanites have to our own food supply. We see urban agriculture as a major upgrade to city life. The need is great and the time is now.
We've secured a highly-visible acre of land within a mile of city-center and need funding to build out the infrastructure that will allow us to research and demonstrate intensive urban growing techniques.
We're changing this... to this!
We are a completely uncompensated, volunteer-run organization. There are no salaries and your entire donation goes toward critical infrastructure. Your donations beyond $10,000 will quicken the farm's progress and help ensure our success.
Our needs include:
Irrigation - We want to build an extensive rain-barrel system that will allow us to capture and store water from an adjacent shopping center. Municipal water lines also need installing for whenever we use up the rain water.
Rain Garden - Urban farming faces special challenges that are also opportunities for innovative solutions. For example, we want to design and install a rain garden. Doing so will keep rain water that falls on our lot out of the sewer system and put it back into the ground. It will also protect the farm's growing beds from runoff from nearby parking lots that could break through and destroy our plant rows.
Tools & Shed - Urban farming uses a lot less machinery than industrial agriculture. We need to put shovels and wheelbarrows into the hands of our eager volunteers.
Hoop House - Hoop Houses extend the growing season by protecting plants from cold winters and offering shade in the summer. If our Kickstarter campaign raises beyond $10,000, we may be able to add one to the farm—bringing more fresh produce to Raleigh.
With your help we will transform one of the city's most underutilized spaces into one of the city's best used spaces.
