Update #9: Exhibition

Posted on December 12

We had a wonderful exhibition at the Old North St. Louis Restoration Group gallery which remained on view nearly through Thanksgiving. The exhibition was a great success with many visitors and lots of encouraging, supportive compliments.

The following images of exhibit reveal the layers of work presented. The central band of colors photographs (running horizontally) contained the students' photographs. The band of small images in a line across the bottom represented the 7" square book's pages. You can find an online preview of the book at Blurb.com. At the top are enlargements of portraits of students and teaching artists in the program.

These 48" high halftone portraits were printed as part of a global art project called InsideOutProject. These portraits were first displayed at 1415 Mallinckrodt Street, Rebuild Foundation's Art House.

      Very nice, Andrew! Have been glad to be a small part of this project.

Update #8: Book update

Posted on October 16, 2011

Reactions to the exhibition have been incredibly positive. We've been fortunate to have had a wonderful venue with the Old North Saint Louis Restoration Group because they have a diverse constituency which has exposed many people to the students' work. The exhibit will continue to be on display through November.

Work on the book documenting the summer's work has progressed nicely. Originally it was planned to be 80 pages, but all of the material just wouldn't fit, so it's been expanded to 120 pages. Thank you for your patience! It's now going to the printer and we'll be getting ready to send them out to our generous backers.

Please send information with the address to which we should send your prints, posters and books. I'll be posting the photographs from which you can select your prints soon.

Take a look at the galley version of the book!

Update #6: Showcase :: Friday 29 July :: 3 – 6 pm

Posted on July 27, 2011

As part of the conclusion of the CityStudioSTL program (sponsored by the Sam Fox School, Washington University), my students' photography will be displayed at 1415 Mallinckrodt Street as part of the Showcase event highlighting the work of Rebuild Foundation's Urban Expressions program this summer.

This celebration will include a BBQ, building tours, art/photography/architecture exhibition, engaging conversation and soulful music. Please invite you friends to attend this open house with the understanding that building renovations are still in process. The idea is that you will experience how community arts practice works and functions in the flesh. Rather than a tidy finished product, you will be able to experience the raw energy, personal drive, daunting challenges and moments of exultation involved in carrying out such an endeavor.

Please join us for the celebration this Friday afternoon at 3pm! Don't miss the performance by the Black Monks of Mississippi!
