About this project
For several years, I have operated "WJJD, The Country Giant" as a sort of tribute to country music radio of the past, complete with authentic station IDs, jingles and branding.
This stream is distributed to a global audience through the Live365.com network as well as iTunes, reaching an audience of 700-plus listeners on a daily basis, or an average of 25,000 listeners per month.
Started in a spare bedroom initially back in 2001, the station has grown to the point where a need for a better-organized work space with additional storage space is obvious.
Recent years have seen our mobile home decay due to water damage from storms. With an inevitable residential renovation or replacement becoming imminent, it has become apparent that the radio station has got to move to a different location.
I initially thought that perhaps a small office trailer, like a construction trailer, would be the best way to go. I still like that idea, but have been unable to find one close to our area that we could afford. That would still be the best option, but, if that is not possible, then next would be the renovation of a basic 10X20 storage shed (shown in photo).
The shed would require additional electrical work, air conditioning (which HAS been donated) and the installation of insulation, paneling and a ceiling inside.
There are additional photos of the current studio, and the shed, on my MySpace page.
To save money, most of the work would be done through the help of friends and family, much like an old fashioned "barn raising." We will handle the moving of the shed to our location, painting, and the installation of two additional windows and the AC unit.
I would also like to purchase the complete traditional country music library from TM Studios, which contains 3,942 titles already on CD. At present I have around 2600, much of it on vinyl albums and 45s. I still use those, but am working to convert them to CD. The TM system will cut months of work from the dubbing process, while adding in many titles that I am still missing at this point.
All of this would bring us to the point of launching a daily (Monday-Friday) country music show that is able to handle music requests from listeners in a more efficient manner. This program would air via the stream from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Eastern Time.
The goal is to build the best-quality sounding station possible, knowing that the stream reaches all over the U.S., Canada, and as many as 100 other countries and territories every month.
Here are our funding estimates so you can see how I arrived at our goal:
Building renovation, including materials still needed: $1,800.00
TM Studios price quote for traditional country library: $2,299.00

I am a legally blind former radio broadcaster. I began my radio career in 1979 as an overnight board operator and quickly moved up to a full music program host for WTAL AM-1450, at that time a soft AC formatted station.
After WTAL I returned to complete my degree in communications at Florida State University. While at FSU, I became an intern, then a full time paid staff writer, for the FSU Media Relations Office.
While still at Media Relations I joined WCVC-AM 1330, a Christian station, where I worked three separate stints for a total of 13 years. First as an on-air host, later as a program director and station manager, and taking on sales in 1997, I worked first in PM and later AM, drive.
A lease of WCVC to a third party eliminated that job, and I quickly realized there were no radio jobs to go to.
That led to my founding of Delta Star Radio of Florida in 2001. In 2004 I left WCVC to devote more time to my family, and to begin development of an online country music station.
That station has grown substantially, but with "growing pains" of its own. The current need for more space, and completion of a traditional country music library, has brought me to Kickstarter.
