Final update: Videos, photos, thanks

Update #9 · Jul 15, 2010 · 1 comment

Hi everyone,

This Tuesday, a horde of vuvuzela players in bright yellow BP Blows t-shirts took to the street in front of BP headquarters in London. For almost 15 minutes (until the cops showed up), they blew the most annoying sound into the air directly at BP headquarters. You made that happen.

All told, you raised $6,846 for the Gulf Disaster Fund, kept public attention focused on BP even while basketball players were traded and Justin Bieber rumors swirled, and exacted a bit of public punishment on some of the most egregious destroyers of the planet.

Backers: Thanks for all your help, both financially and through spreading the word.
Volunteers: Thanks for subjecting yourselves to that volume of irritating noise for a good cause.
Babelgum: Thanks for being my eyes and ears on the ground in London, helping me organize this from across the sea, and covering the event like pros.

Here is a links to Babelgum's coverage, with video of the event, interviews, and photos

Thanks again everyone,
Adam Quirk

Tuesday 7/13 - Today is the day.

Update #8 · Jul 12, 2010 · 7 comments

Meet at St James Square Garden at noon to pick up your free Vuvuzela and BP Blows Tshirt.

Once the crowd has gathered, everyone will walk over to BP HQ at 1 St James Square and start to blow.

Several news crews will be there, and our friends at Babelgum will have a video crew as well.

Thanks again,
Adam

Happily, all of the $6,846 we raised for this campaign is going to the Gulf Disaster Fund.

Ben from the Cheezburger Network sent me $500 via paypal that I'll use to cover any costs accrued by the volunteers on the ground for the Experimental Vuvuzela Exhalation Procedure in London.

For those of you that have volunteered to blow a horn or help organize, I'll be emailing you tomorrow.

For any of you who are interested in such things, please email me: quirk@wreckandsalvage.com with the subject "Vuvuzela Volunteer"

Stay tuned for more dispatches as they are warranted.

End transmission.

Two huge new backers!

Update #5 · Jul 7, 2010 · 3 comments

Great news! Two things:

1. Babelgum, a web and Mobile video content platform historically committed to environmental issues, has jumped on board with the Vuvuzelas for BP project in a big way. They have agreed to donate $2,000, and will be sending a professional video production crew to cover the event in London. They're also planning to shoot some behind-the-scenes footage with myself and the other organizers and volunteers, as well as some more in-depth coverage of the people behind the Gulf Disaster Fund. Thanks Babelgum!

2. Ben Huh of The Cheezburger Network has agreed to donate $1,000 to the project as well! He is going to send me half of that directly so that we don't have to wait until all these funds clear to commence the Vuvuzela Deployment. The Cheezburger Network is also planning to help distribute the video once Babelgum has finished up the edit after the event. Thanks Ben!

Both Babelgum and Cheezburger Network are also going to be helping to kick up some more pledges from across the globe today. We're going to try to get the final tally up to $10,000, but the project ends at 7pm EST. If you know someone who either hates BP, loves the Gulf of Mexico, hates vuvuzelas, or has a sense of humor, please send them our way!

Thanks everyone,
Adam

Anyone who pledges $10 gets the satisfaction of knowing you just bought a vuvuzela that will undoubtedly frustrate some smug oil baron.
