Park a horde of vuvuzela players outside of BP corporate headquarters for a full day.
Aiming for $10,000 by 7pm today!
UPDATE: Wednesday, July 7th
Great news! Two things:
1. Babelgum, a web and Mobile video content platform historically committed to environmental issues, has jumped on board with the Vuvuzelas for BP project in a big way. They have agreed to donate $2,000, and will be sending a professional video production crew to cover the event in London. They're also planning to shoot some behind-the-scenes footage with myself and the other organizers and volunteers, as well as some more in-depth coverage of the people behind the Gulf Disaster Fund. Thanks Babelgum!
2. Ben Huh of The Cheezburger Network has agreed to donate $1,000 to the project as well! He is going to send me half of that directly so that we don't have to wait until all these funds clear to commence the Vuvuzela Deployment. The Cheezburger Network is also planning to help distribute the video once Babelgum has finished up the edit after the event. Thanks Ben!
Both Babelgum and Cheezburger Network are also going to be helping to kick up some more pledges from across the globe today. We're going to try to get the final tally up to $10,000, but the project ends at 7pm EST. If you know someone who either hates BP, loves the Gulf of Mexico, hates vuvuzelas, or has a sense of humor, please send them our way!
Well this has surpassed anything I expected. We're going to be able to donate thousands of dollars to the Gulf Disaster Fund, and exact a bit of revenge on one of the companies that caused this destruction.
Thanks to everyone who has supported the project. I'll be posting more updates here and on my twitter as the day approaches. We're not going to make the exact date public, so please pledge if you haven't already so that you can get the private updates that will eventually announce the date/time/coordinates of the Dynamic Vuvuzela Deployment Operation 2010!
Also, someone has pointed out that England has a long and rich history of protests such as this:
BP is not feeling the pain they are causing in the Gulf. BP is spending millions on PR. In order to put a bit of public pressure on them, we plan to buy 100 vuvuzelas and hire 100 vuvuzela players off Craigslist to play in front of BP's International Headquarters in London for a one-day flash mob.
1 St James's Square
London, SW1Y 4PD
Budget: $2,000 = $1,000 for the vuvuzela protest ; $1,000 for the Gulf Disaster Fund
Budget is set at $2000 for now, which will be enough to buy 100 vuvuzelas at $6.50 a pop (plus shipping), and leave some left for hiring some people to manage the crowds. Hopefully (and likely) we can find people to play for free (plus they get a free vuvuzela).
I'm a video producer by trade, so we will definitely be making a video of this event as well.
I know this isn't going to change anything, but it will draw attention back to BP after the invevitable 24hr news cycle finds some celebrity sex scandal to distract us with.
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.

Pledge $10 or more
Anyone who pledges $10 gets the satisfaction of knowing you just bought a vuvuzela that will undoubtedly frustrate some smug oil baron.
