WHO AM I? 

My name is Lemia Monet Bodden and I am a photographer and filmmaker. I constantly switch back and forth from both professions or, sometimes, juggle both simultaneously! I have written a couple of screenplays while attending New York University and Glance and The Past Between Us were the only two concepts that I decided to bring into fruition. 

The idea and actual short script of Glance derives from scenes of a feature screenplay, The Past Between Us, that I finished in September 2011. The Past Between Us follows the attraction and deep love of an interracial couple struggling to maintain their relationship after a dark family secret is revealed and connects them both. Glance is basically a character study of the main character, Jennifer, from the feature, giving a little insight of the life she lead before her relationship. 

Glance is a selling short that I would like to bring to festivals for The Past Between Us, to create interest and to gain funding toward production of the feature film. 

SYNOPSIS

Glance is a short film that peers into a day in the life of Jennifer Walkerson, a woman that adheres to a very safe and banal routine of leaving early in the morning for work and coming home to an empty apartment. The absences of personal and friendly connections in her life motivates her to look to others for any sense of validation, but seems to receive, in return, only indifference and rejection. One night, serendipitously, she enters into a quiet simpatico with a stranger on the subway, sparking hope and attraction with just one prolonged glance. 

CREATIVE BACKGROUND 

Glance deeply examines the paradox of loneliness that surrounds so many people who reside in cities; they are immersed in a dense population and presented with a million opportunities to connect with someone, but are unable to for unknown reasons. The feeling of isolation becomes the norm, rather than the exception. 

And that is what I brought to Jennifer, the same feelings that I have experienced, here and there, while living in New York City for the past seven years: that misplaced feeling of being lost within the overpopulated environments of subways, restaurants, and bars. 

While the film deconstructs the structure of loneliness and the reality that there are so many people out there who live their lives within this dreadful paradox, it offers the possibility that hope can still make its presence known, even during the bleakest moments in life. 

FUNDS...WHERE ARE THEY GOING?  

The money that is raised through Kickstarter will be contributed towards the following: 

- PRE - PRODUCTION:  Securing locations, casting sessions to find the main three characters, and storyboards. 

- PRODUCTION:  Transportation (for crew and cast), craft (snacks) and meals for the crew, camera rental gear, grip and electric rental gear, art direction and production design, costumes and makeup, media storage of footage, and audio equipment rentals. 

- POST PRODUCTION:  Sound mixing, color correction, production of DVDs for festival submissions, and any ADR sessions.
