Dear Friends,
It's been almost 20 years since Psychic TV has performed in Texas, and we are so excited to have the opportunity to play at South by Southwest at ELYSIUM on Tuesday night, March 15, 2011. In 2003 Genesis teamed up with Edley ODowd to form a reactivated version of the band named PTV3, and will be playing in Austin along with Jeff Berner, Jessica Stewart, and Alice Genese. The band is more fun than ever and sounding better than ever before.
The opportunity to perform in Austin comes largely with the North American Premiere at South by Southwest Film of Marie Losier's new feature length documentary The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye. This touching and intimate portrait reveals the beautiful and daring relationship between Genesis Breyer P-Orridge (founding member of Psychic TV as well as Throbbing Gristle and Thee Majesty) and his partner Lady Jaye. Coming straight from its World Premiere at the Forum in the Berlin International Film Festival, the film won both the Caligari Award and the Teddy Award. After its premiere at SxSW, the film will continue on to several festivals in the US.
Making the concert happen as well as the film premiere with the director and crew in attendance takes a lot and we want to open up this opportunity to friends, fans, and family to contribute to help make these special events happen. Genesis P-Orridge's Psychic TV has been a moniker for groundbreaking new music since "Force The Hand of Chance" back in 1981. Still performing and making new recordings, PTV3 released the 'Alien Brain Vs. Maggot Brain' 12" last year to much excitement. They will follow up this year with 'Alien Sky Vs. Mother Sky', keeping with the themes from their 2008 opus "Mr. Alien Brain Vs. The Skinwalkers'.
"The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye" documents the great modern love story between Genesis P-Orridge—the founder of Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV and one of the most influential figures in underground music since the 1970s –and Lady Jaye, his closest artistic collaborator for nearly 15 years. Director Marie Losier trains her sensitive, tactile vision on "Creating Their Pandrogyne", the couple's attempt to dissolve the physical boundaries between them and become the same person, and portrays Genesis's resolve in the years following Lady Jaye's death in 2007. Mixing interviews, home movies, and performance footage, Losier brings us nearer to the artists than ever before in a playful and moving revelation of a new romantic consciousness.
